Description Kili was rudely awakened by a boot tapping his head. His eyes opened to the sight of Fili leaning over him.

“Sleeping together already?”

The older prince was referring to Y/n who was currently occupying the other half of his bedroll. Kili had relinquished his fair half of the mat to Y/n and most of his body was lying on the forest floor. She was curled into him; her eyes were closed and mouth slightly open. Kili’s two blankets were stretched over both of them.

“Shove it,” Kili grunted as he untangled himself from the two blankets and stood up as carefully as possible. He didn’t want to wake her. “What do you want?”

“To continue our conversation from last night.”

“Really Fee? I thought we ended that.”

“What do you thing you’re doing?” Fili’s voice was more serious than Kili was used to.

“Pardon?”

“I mean it Kee, where do you see this going?”

“Like I said last night, there’s nothing happening brother.”

“If anyone knows you brother, it’s me. I can see you like Y/n and I just want you to think this through.”

Kili pursed his lips, “What do you mean?”

Fili sighed. His brother never possessed the useful skill of forethought. “I mean besides the fact that she is a human and you are a Dwarven prince; you’ve only just met the girl, Kee! I mean…she seems very nice but she doesn’t speak our language! You don’t have a way of communicating.”

“I can get by,” He huffed.

“But you can’t get to know her! You don’t know anything about the lass, none of us do. And we have no way of finding out,” Fili paused. Maybe he was smashing Kili’s dreams a little too efficiently. “What I mean to say is… just… don’t get too attached. Someone at Laketown will help her and we’ll go our separate paths.”

“I know that Fili!” Kili was exasperated. “Now, if I’m not mistaken Bombur is serving breakfast and I’d rather not miss it.” The younger prince began to move away but his brother grabbed his arm.

“Don’t make her into something she’s not,” Fili warned.

“I’ll take that into consideration,” Kili’s voice dripped with venom. He walked over to Bombur who handed out the same dry food they ate last night.

“Morning,” Both dwarves said halfheartedly. Kili took his rations (plus a little extra for Y/n) and made his way back to his bedroll. Y/n was awake. She had sleep in her eyes and two leaves sticking out of her hair. The prince smiled to himself. He didn’t want to think it through. He didn’t want to think at all. He wanted to enjoy this feeling.

Kili sat down next to Y/n and handed her the food he’d scraped together for her.

“Thank you,” Y/n said. A frown pulled at her lips. She’d hoped yesterday was a dream and that she’d wake up in the world she knew. Y/n looked around the clearing; everyone was awake and she was still here. She bit down on a piece of dried meat.

Kili looked at Y/n. She looked worn. He nudged her with his elbow and gave her a smile. She smiled back. ‘Today I’ll get some answers,’ She thought, ‘Today is the day I’m getting home. It’ll happen today. Something will happen today.’

Silence hung in the air, as tangible as the soil beneath their boots. Thorin looked around at the thick forest; he didn’t like it. They’d been walking for four hours and an unwavering feeling of paranoia had haunted him from the beginning. The earth was too still. Thorin preferred the intense sound of battle to this suspicious calm. At least then, danger made itself known. In battle, threat presented itself in a loud, clear, and honest manner. But now, menace slipped into the hollow skin of peace. It lulled his men into a false sense of security.

He heard something above him and jerked his head upwards. A broken branch swung delicately from a tendon of bark that clung to a tree. The leaves were grey and withered. Thorin stared at it and it stared back as if asking, what’s wrong? He gestured for the company to stop behind him.

“What is it?” Balin asked, walking up beside the leader.

“There’s no wind,” He muttered. At last, the forest’s true colors peaked through the fog of serenity.

Y/n’s chin rose from Kili’s head as the whole group stopped in their tracks. Thorin was looking up; Y/n wondered is he could see the sky. She’d been trying to find an unobstructed view of the clouds all day with no success. Her fingers fiddled with Kili’s collar. The woods stood still around them and the only thing Y/n’s ears could find in the midst of this captivating calm was her own breathing.

Eight strong and hairy limbs wrapped around her torso from above. They yanked her from Kili’s back and up into the sky. A scream ripped from her throat. Y/n felt a stabbing pain in the side of her neck and the world slid out of focus. The sound of Dwarven cries reached her ears. Her vision blurred and Y/n slipped into unconsciousness.

Ugh, I hate spiders. They are literally my worst nightmare.

I'm excited to read what happens next.
