reference was a photo of some actor playing 'Macbeth' from Shakespeare's most brilliant masterpiece of the same name

yeh i know it's a 'scrap' but... i care not...

in biro, while at the local Bowlo - waiting for a certain barman to go on his break...

The technique behind the portrait is really sound, great work of shading and line work, the crown is really detailed, but I can't help but laugh at how goofy this interpretation of Macbeth looks (this is a critique on the artistic director of that version of the play, not your work at all). The tweeked eyebrow and the handlebar moustache makes him look like Fun Manchu or Ming the Merciless. I actually think the lettering on this is really, REALLY COOL! I love it and I think it would look awesome on a poster somewhere.

Very interesting picture and a very appropriate quote. Macbeth has an odd expression, somewhere between his thoughtful and sensitive self at the beginning and the hardened person he is at the end. Interesting, what's been said about who is more evil, Macbeth or Lady Macbeth. Although Lady Macbeth seems more heartless and cold during the first few killings, she is the one who commits suicide and Macbeth dies caring about nothing else but his ambition. Note that haunting scene where Lady Macbeth is sleep-walking saying "All the perfumes in Arabia could not sweeten this small hand." Her conscience haunts her even during sleep.

yeah nice picture - some real good work with the biro here - maybe some of the best i have seen

i didn't seet the original picture but the words do fill out the page well and match up with the picture (in style)

Don't know what Macbeth should look like so can't really comment on that aspect...don't actually know the story either

makes me feel a bit like i'm looking at an entry from Macbeth's diary [if they had diaries in those days] - such a mean looking charater so logically he would have mean looking hand writing (not restricted by the lines on the page) - and he wouldn't write "oh i must increase taxes today" [here i am assuming he is a king cause he has a crown] but he would instead write some profound quote - oh and draw pictures of himself too of course (how egotistical)

mm 'mean' is an understatement - yep, he is a king - a murderous usurping tyrant to be specific... anyway, its a brilliant story, one of my very favourites (not that i'm morbid or anything ), and if you never read any other Shakespeare, i recommend this one! there's also a very good movie version which would save a bit of time

i usually fall sleep in those situations these days eyes refuse to co-operate - not much use for trying to focus on a drawing

hehe i wrote 'scrap' not 'crap' - as in it should be in my scrapbook according to the Deviation Submission page & the lined paper etc - if that's what you were referring to

but i'm glad you don't think it's crap & hope you aren't too traumatised

yes, Shakespeare is good! as for the spelling of his name, apparently he himself spelt it different ways from time to time, so i wouldn't worry too much

Scrap! me thinks not! This is an immense peice, i remember doing macbeth for my GCSEs and i realised what an evil character he is but not of the plays had an actor worhty enough for the role! this pic is immense and so life like even in biro, congrats a definate hit!
