Description
Sanguinius, also known as the "Great Angel" and the "Brightest One" during his lifetime, was the Primarch of the Blood Angels Legion of Space Marines. He was killed during the climax of the Horus Heresy at the Battle of Terra defending the Emperor of Mankind from the Warmaster Horus aboard his flagship, the Battle Barge Vengeful Spirit.Though Horus slew Sanguinius, who had once been one of his closest friends amongst the other Primarchs, Imperial legend holds that it was the chink in Horus' armour created by the Angel that allowed the Emperor to slay the Arch-heretic and thus prevent Mankind from falling to the corruption of the Ruinous Powers of Chaos.

He looks broken, so this is a late portrait of Sanguinius.Β
His massive psychic powers might have been what made him so powerful and one of the reasons why he was so beloved. But to him, it turned out as nothing but a curse. The power of foresight and knowing what the future was holding for him, made his sacrifice even bigger. Everything he was holding dear was already broken. His legion was destined to suffer from uncontrollable hate and would have to fight against its demons inside of their minds for all of eternity. The Imperium that has cost so much blood and pain to create was broken and he knew it was his most beloved brother's fault. And Curze shattered what little confidence and faith was left in the Angel's mind.Β
It would have been so easy to give in to the hatred. So easy.
Yet he chose to hope. To hope that maybe one of the many paths that showed up in his visions might be an escape out of the faith that wasnΒ΄t guaranteed to happen. Nothing is guaranteed to happen, and even the mightiest Farseers and Tzeentch himself are knowing that the future is a stormy and moody bride that likes to promise many different things. Some of these promises are spoken crystal clear and loud, while others are just whispered wishes.Β
The Angel knew what was waiting for him. And even in the face of death, he didnΒ΄t give up his hope for one of those beautiful whispers to be true.
When he finally got slaughtered out of the mortal realm, he left us more than just a crack in Horus' armor.
He left us the message that there is always hope and even if we die fighting for it, then it is still worth it.
What else is there in the end for all of us, but hope?Β
