Description
A follow-up on this drawing: www.deviantart.com/d3-arts/art…Brodvar and Chirp's story continues.
After finding his homeland turned to ash and cinder, Brodvar and Chirp raced towards Phandalin. Yet, they never reached the town, for along they way they ran into a rag-tag group of adventurers locked in battle with Goblins.
Brodvar and Chirp helped them and afterwards joined the group. The old druid continued searching for his lost kin all the while aiding the group he joined, as well as anyone in need of help along the way. He became a sort of grandfather to the group, providing much needed wisdom and insight for the young adventurers. They were four - a warrior cat named Borr, a cleric of pristine physical shape called Uldeth, a clumsy sorcerer by the name of Quinan, and a shifty goblin known as Dekan. Although grieving and to his best efforts still not having found trace of his kin, he became attached to these new companions. He guided them and was their unofficial elder.
All was well for the troupe until one faithful day when they tangled with a deadly dragon. Their mission was to slay the beast, yet Brodvar - knowing much of dragons and their ways, counseled the group to strike a deal with the dragon and not needlessly risk their lives. The dragon had not harmed anyone until then and was merely guarding his hoarded treasure.
Conversing with the dragon, Brodvar and his companions learned that he was hiding away from the dreaded Relyosh Sixwing - a savage butcher of dragons.
The dragon explained that Relyosh slaughtered dragons regardless of their nature, age or disposition. The group made a deal with the great lizard; they would slay the dragon butcher and in return the dragon will take his treasure far away from inhabited areas.
All seemed set and done, yet the gleam of gold and ancient weapons allured the goblin, who risked the group's lives for his personal gain and near doomed them all. Enraged, the dragon attacked, and the group was forced to slay him. To make matters worse, a group of nearby dragon cultists were studying the beast and with him slain they too would face death should they return to their headquarters. They were kind to the group, especially Chirp whom they healed after mistakenly hurting him, so Brodvar could hold no ill will towards them.
In an attempt to help the dragon worshipers who would die for their blunder, Brodvar promised to bring them to the greatest dragon of all - the very God of Dragons. Brodvar had met him long ago during his travels around the world. Trouble was, however, that the God of Dragons lived in another world altogether.
The old druid did not remember exactly when and how he travelled to another world, nor what he and the dragon spoke of or did. Yet, once in a blue moon, he would hear the dragon's voice in his nightmares. It was a gamble - he felt, but he could not let the cultists perish for the misdeeds of a greedy goblin. So it was that Brodvar performed a ritual to contact him. The God of Dragons spoke in a tongue unknown and unheard of, but it worked - the cultist had a new deity to worship and would not die. However, this is where Brodvar's troubles began.
Since communing with the God of Dragons, Brodvar began to hear his voice every time he went to sleep. Speaking in thunderous tongues, the dragon bid him do something - what, Brodvar could not fathom. Yet sleep made him more weary than refreshed, and the dragon's strange words shivered his soul with dread and doom. Therefore old Brodvar tried his best no to sleep at all, hoping the God of Dragons would tire of waiting for him to snooze and leave.
However, what Brodvar did not realize was that that was exactly what the dragon wanted. With his mind, body and soul weakened by prolonged fatigue, Brodvar collapsed into a five day sleep. The God of Dragons then slipped into his mind and soul; he sunk his claws in and waited for the old druid to awake.
Brodvar rose from a long troubled sleep - dread and doom filling his soul. He was not possessed, but rather haunted by the dragon. He did not control Brodvar, but rather fueled certain emotions while dousing others, and suggested thoughts and ideas to the old druid that he could not distinguish from his own.
So it is now, that Brodvar is no longer his old self. Chirp has noticed but knows not how to help his old friend. How deep will the dragon's influence go and where it will take old Brodvar is yet to be seen.
