Like I've done in past years, I have again decided to post more than one Canada Day celebrations pic this year. Yes, I will still feature our "gang of six" (as I affectionately refer to them as) wearing their festive Canada Day gear....

BUT FIRST, MAY I AGAIN SAY....

I—and my most notable six friends—wish to acknowledge that we are gathered on Treaty 1 territory, traditional territory of the Anishinaabeg, Cree, OjiCree, Dakota, and Dene Peoples, and on the homeland of the Métis Nation.

And although (in the light of recent discoveries of unmarked burial graves of young Indigenous boys and girls near former residential schools) we have chosen to still celebrate Canada Day this year, we also acknowledge and remember the successes and the hardships incurred by our Indigenous Peoples past and present.

Canada has become a modern and vibrant nation, and although our past be not always honourable, our present we are thankful for, and our future we can build upon, to create a better community and country for all our people, Indigenous and non-Indigenous, every man, woman and child.

And since every child represents our future, EVERY CHILD MATTERS.
