Description
It's maddening how for being my favorite mecha, Giant Robo's OVA design is so dang hard to draw. Those shoulders always fuck with me. Sometimes it looks small, Other times it covers his head. I prefer the latter look because it gives a sense of scale to him and also serves as a functional form of protection to the giant missiles stored inside and protecting the head from attack as Daisaku often stands next to Robo's head in combat. Unfortunately this look also is hard to replicate, even among the OVA's many animators it wasn't consistent.

This probably is the best attempt I've made at drawing it. I had to go into CSP EX and edit the ink sketch by increasing the size of the shoulders and correcting some details I couldn't get right on paper. It still isn't perfect but the forced perspective angle of the pose helps convey that sense of scale this incarnation of Giant Robo is famous for.
