Description I dedicate this to my dearest
and my dear that I miss very much.

Elric is one of my favorites antiheroes, he is the Albino Emperor of Melnibone, his health is very fragile, in contrast with other heroes his powers comes from his demon sword -Stormbringer- that feeds upon the souls of those it kills and gives their lifeforce back to Elric making him powerful.
He lives in a world that the forces of Law and Chaos are constantly fighting each other.
He is a pawn for both of these forces...
Slowly he watches his world -and everything dear to him devoured by Chaos.

You're welcome. As other people have said, this is probably the best Elric cosplay I've seen, as well as one of the best portrayals.

Can you act? Because we might have need of your skills if the Elric film becomes reality.

Im so honored by your words, as Elric is very dear to me (I believe all Elric's fans feels this way, since he is a very special case of hero)

Ah the Elric movie..Its been announced since..2003?

New-Vogue-Ravyn In reply to daisukekuroneko [2011-03-19 19:50:17 +0000 UTC]

I think you're right. I've only been an Elric fan for a couple of years, but I got quite strongly attached to him pretty quickly. There's just something about him that brings that out in people, I think.

Something like that. It'll probably never get made, which might not be such a bad thing considering what can happen. The Solomon Kane film was pretty good though, so who knows.

daisukekuroneko In reply to New-Vogue-Ravyn [2011-03-19 20:01:22 +0000 UTC]

So very true,I totally agree with you. Maybe its the fact that Elric is not the powerful and flawless hero archetype. He suffers and doubts himself and his actions constantly. In a way we all see a part of ourselves in him. Thats what I think at least.

I sincerely hope if they film it to respect the books and also to choose an unknown but good actor to play Elric.
You are right about solomon kane, it was a descent adaptation

New-Vogue-Ravyn In reply to daisukekuroneko [2011-03-19 20:09:39 +0000 UTC]

Yes. In that respect Valen from Carol Berg's Lighthouse Duet reminds me a lot of Elric; he suffers, he doubts, everything seems to fall apart and yet he still marches grimly on. The only difference is that Valen gets a happy ending, I think it would've been really difficult to have had a satifactory happy ending to the Elric Saga, the mood of the series was too bleak for it to work I think.

I'm in the camp which would be happy with an actress playing Elric, I think I would prefer that to any overly buff male actor. Though I could forgive excessive muscle if the actor was good enough.

daisukekuroneko In reply to New-Vogue-Ravyn [2011-03-19 20:28:20 +0000 UTC]

I know Lighthouse duet only by name, is it good?
Truth is Elric couldnt have any other ending..Or at least I cant imagine a good ending for him. When I read the final lines back then I was and I have to admit that I was depressed for some time.

In all honesty I wouldnt like to see an actress portraying him and of course not a body builder!
I have a good example here how he could be [link] from the movie time machine in 2002, Jeremy Irons was superb! (I would prefer a younger actor of course ) What do you think?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

New-Vogue-Ravyn In reply to daisukekuroneko [2011-03-20 00:20:50 +0000 UTC]

I thought it was good, but everyone's tastes are different and since the only other books I know you like are Elric I can't really say whether you'll like it. I know Bowie likes it too though, if that helps.

That's fair enough, not everyone is as used to seeing men play women as I am anyway. XD Ah, I own that film purely for Jeremy "Money, dear boy" Irons looking and acting like that. He was also the best thing in Dungeons and Dragons. I think he would've been excellent, but as you say too old now. There's also Paul Bettany, who would do well I think given the performances of his I've seen, and I think Rupert Friend could do it even though it would be a different role to what he's used to so far.

daisukekuroneko In reply to New-Vogue-Ravyn [2011-03-20 13:12:54 +0000 UTC]

I should give it a try then
I like Bowie but I dont know his taste lol!

Since I love asian cinematography Im used to see this kind of acting, I never had a problem with it as sometimes its very fitting in a play, especially in fantasy genre. I have to admit that I find it intriguing when an actor plays a female character than the opposite.

You are right Jeremy was the only thing that worth in DND! Great actor btw.
Oh Bettany would be very interesting in the role! Right now I cant think of someone else more appropriate.
I know its already been said so many times but a young David Bowie would be..

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

New-Vogue-Ravyn In reply to daisukekuroneko [2011-03-20 13:58:40 +0000 UTC]

I meant Bowie-Spawan likes the books. I don't know whether you know their real name or not, so that's why I referred to their nickname.

I always find it interesting when roles are played cross-gender, it shows that gender is only really something which is learnt and performed. Sometimes actors playing the opposite gender can be extremely believable.

Yes, a younger David Bowie, or even around the time he made Labryinth would've been good. Too bad we can't have a time machine. I think that a lot of the problems that filmmakers could have with the technical side of making an Elric film might be solved by doing an animated film instead (though people probably shouldn't take their children to see it, nightmares ahoy...). How would you feel about that?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

daisukekuroneko In reply to New-Vogue-Ravyn [2011-03-20 14:20:11 +0000 UTC]

I thought you meant David Bowie.. sorry!!I misunderstood it..I feel such an idiot now..
I know *Bowie-Spawan , Im her fan and also I trust her taste, so I guess the book will be good.

I completely agree with you, take for example the actress Tilda swinton she really is a chameleon!

Labyrinth is one of my favorite films.
I believe with the CG reaching at their peak nowadays and since Peter Jackson managed to make Lotr into a movie everything is possible in the film industry.
Still I would love to see an animated film, it would definitely be more easy to depict Elric and his world into animation than to a movie.
I suppose you would like to see an animated film too?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

New-Vogue-Ravyn In reply to daisukekuroneko [2011-03-20 14:29:27 +0000 UTC]

No, don't feel bad. I'm her fan too (I 'stalk' her on Facebook lol), and on the whole I agree that she has good taste.

Yes, I was thinking of Tilda Swinton in particular. I was really impressed with her in Orlando, completely believable as male (or neutral gender, as Gabriel in Constantine).

Yes, but sometimes too much CGI can be a bad thing if it doesn't look believable enough. Which is why I wouldn't mind the film to be animated. Again, it's too bad Wendy Pini's animated Stormbringer project didn't pan out, the artwork for that is stunning.

Sorry for the late reply
I didnt know she has fb!

Yes and Swinton has smth eerie in her appearance that makes her so interesting.

Of course you re right about CGI, I would like to see a quality like in 300 movie CGI on their best.
hmm Im not aware of Pini's work, Im now checking her site with the masque of red death, it take some time to load the pages Im so curious!!!Thank you for informing me about this!

That's okay.

You're welcome, I believe the entire book she published showing her artwork and processes for her attempt is availiable to read there.

Ah, so now you're going to hunt her down eh? > I found her on FB through the Elric page initially, didn't know her real name but she posted a link to Quest for Tanelorn so I worked out who she was lol.

I checked the artwork, its a good try, I can imagine that it took quite sometime to the artist to do this. To bad the project didnt made it into a animation.

haha most definitely!Im gonna be lets see how good I am as a hunter!lol!
