He holds it that way in the books too - I was reading The Seven Crystal Balls today and noticed it. I don't know if you own that one, but if so, page 44, bottom left.

I got a bit wee obsessed with that too xD Minus the "wee bit".
Actually, I just saw the movie for a second time today, simply so I could see that one particular scene there in the gif, and the last scene for his smile when they've just found the treasure and Tintin is going up to show the Captain the last clue.
I don't even. I can't. DON'T EVEN JUDGE ME.

Trust me, you have nothing to defend yourself for. I saw it opening week than again the following week (in 3D). This is going to sound stupid, but I wanted to see it for the scene where they kidnap him and put him in the crate. That was sort of my favorite part from the cartoon only because I thought it was creative. NOT THAT I'M SOME MASOCHIST FREAK WHO ENJOYS SEEING PEOPLE GETTING KIDNAPPED!!!! I wonder if there's a gif of that?

Xiarx In reply to Bitsy83 [2011-12-31 02:27:37 +0000 UTC]
Really? xD The crate scene? Well, I must admit, Tintin + Chloroform is certainly... an interesting concept.
I MEAN LIKE. TRUE TO THE BOOKS AND STUFF. YEAH. THAT'S WHAT I MEAN. 'Cause like, chloroform knocks people unconscious.
Tintin. Unconscious. Heh.
... I'm killing my childhood here, why do I even exist anymore.
I just want the ending scene to the movie. I love his smile there.
It only lasts for like, 5 seconds. I re-saw the movie solely so I could have that 5 seconds of awesome.
What of it.
There probably is a gif somewhere. Surely it's in one of the trailers though o_o

It's actually quite trippy to watch the film now that I'm older, because now I'm roughly around the same age as Tintin.
And I've never really seen Tintin as remotely close to fangirl material, but now I've seen this movie. God damn. What happened.
Goodbye childhood. xD
I can't help it.

I never read the comics as a kid (the only copy I once found in the library was in French and I desperately wanted to read it but I couldn't understand it and that made me sad ). But I've seen some of the '90s cartoon (which I'm now in love with) after watching the movie and yeah. It's so weird looking at him like that but damn Weta Workshop made him too hot. It's all their fault

Xiarx In reply to DuchessAliana [2012-01-03 04:01:40 +0000 UTC]
You should get out the comics now, if you can, they're really great to read :3
I love the cartoon of Tintin too, and I'm so glad my dad was like "LET ME FORCE THIS INTO YOUR CHILDHOOD!" when I was about 8 and made me watch them. xD
And you're right, we hold no responsibility for our appreciation of Tintin. They made him too nice to look at xD
He actually looks pretty fit in the film, which surprised me too. o_o

DuchessAliana In reply to Xiarx [2012-01-03 06:23:39 +0000 UTC]
I would get them if I wasn't a poor college student. My library kind of sucks. And I SO wish I'd seen the show as a kid - I would've loved it and then the movie would've had that epic nostalgia factor that 'The Muppets' had
Oh well. I hope there are enough hyper-aware fangirls in the U.S. who have realized how hot he is in the movie so the domestic gross goes up. Fangirls are what fuel the industry...half the people going to see The Avengers are probably going to be Loki fangirls so yeah it works. Fangirl power = money = sequel = more of almostreal!Tintin's ginger awesomeness.
(And did I mention his HAIR in the movie? They did a GREAT job animating that hair )

Xiarx In reply to DuchessAliana [2012-01-03 09:12:03 +0000 UTC]
xD I haven't seen The Muppets yet. They were a part of my childhood too, except they frightened me so I don't think I'll be getting the whole NOSTALGIA VIBE LOL from it like I did from Tintin.
I'm hoping there'll be a tonne of new Tintin fangirls too, especially here in Australia. Because then I'll be able to be like "TINTIN!" in public and the response will be "HERGE IS AMAZING" instead of "lol watz a tin tin?"
And there will be a sequel, there's got to be. I think the film's already been quite successful, so hopefully they'll be preparing another one soon.
I always thought Tintin had blonde or light brown hair, not ginger. But now that I'm looking back through the comics, I guess it could be ginger. o_o The movie did an excellent job in making his hair, it looked believable xD

DuchessAliana In reply to Xiarx [2012-01-04 00:16:48 +0000 UTC]
LOL well the new Muppet movie is pretty awesome anyway xD
And I always thought he was blonde, but I guess his hair is sort of reddish-blonde or something. Anyway, I like him as a ginger. There are too many evil gingers xD The CG hair was lovely but it does nothing to help the mind-in-gutter fangirling...it looked too real and fluffy and ready to be ruffled But yeah I hope there are more fangirls. Browsing through the comments on youtube, I found a good number of them LOL
Btw way back to the tied-up discussion that never should have happened ,the online game on the movie website was NO HELP AT ALL. Here I am trying to preserve the innocence of Tintin and the Karaboudjan mission in the game starts out with Tintin fricking tied up on the boat. And the first thing you have to do is get him free so he's wriggling around and then when he escapes, his speech bubble is literally like, "(struggle...grunt...) You'd think the sailors would know how to tie knots better than this." And I'm like "
heheheh...OHGODIAMSUCHAPERVERT
"
*runs and hides*

Oh my God, the fangirls on Youtube.
There was one comment on one of the videos, you might have seen it, and got like 9001 likings and the comment was "Tintin is so hot." The moment I read it, I literally burst out laughing at this because it was so awkward, but just. Unf. He actually is. But I can't say that, because he's TINTIN, for crying out loud.
INNER TURMOIL, Y U NO GO AWAY.
And don't worry, his hair does need to be ruffled, especially when you get the close ups in the film. Seriously, why didn't they just sit there and pat his head when he was tied up, instead of interrogating him about some stupid treasure clue. There are more important things than some lost fortune, like Tintin's hair and its need to be ruffled.
... wait, what is this you say? There's an online game? Of Tintin? Tied up?
Well, well, well. That, I must see xD
I'm killing the innocence of my childhood. But it's kind of worth it. Except it's kind of not.
D:

OH I'VE SEEN THAT COMMENT LOL xD I was actually glad for it because I was afraid to make that comment myself but then I saw someone else already had and I didn't feel as weird and awkward anymore Not to mention there were like 50 other comments saying basically the same thing
I took a screencap from one moment in the trailer when it's all dark and he turns around for a second (I think it's from the end of the movie before they find part of the treasure). It is now my desktop background. I REGRET NOTHING
Also, that lovely little quiff of his was just begging to be ruffled
And, yes. There is a game. The Karaboudjan mission is the one that starts with him, erm, you know. Click at your own risk [link] I claim no further responsibility for the destruction of your childhood >_>

Youtube comments regarding Tintin make me laugh, they are an endless amount of entertainment.
They're so hilariously awkward and cringeworthy, but so true! Some of the fangirls scare me though, because they're like reincarnations of myself except more expressive and actually say what I'm thinking.
OH MY GOD, I know that part of the trailer! I think that was like the one moment where I decided that my childhood was officially murdered by this new, sassy, rather nice looking Tintin. I remember seeing that in the movie and I was just like "... this, I can live with. I would." I demand that desktop background! xD
But the one screenshot I really want is the very last scene where Tintin smiles with that sly "I know something you don't know LOL I HAS ANOTHER CLUE LOL" before he tells Haddock. That was it for me.
All of the fanart googling afterwards.
*clicks link* Thank you! So much free time I have right now.

LOL I know, there was one that was like, "You all are invited to me and Tintin's wedding"
And this was the part I spazzed over after some commenter was obsessively observant enough to point it out: [link]

oooh I can't remember what his grin looked like there...I clearly need to pay to see this again, although I was going to anyway

BAHAHA. Ugh, I can't imagine Tintin being married.
I remember seeing this quote on Tumblr regarding that idea:
----
Whenever Tintin has to deal with much younger kids (i.e. Abdulla) all I can think is how horrifying a father he would be. Can you even imagine?
“When I was your age I was a world famous reporter and traveled the world and imprisoned the mafia and prevented wars and had my own flat and strangled tigers with my bare hands and found hidden treasures and drove tanks and went to the Moon…and you’re telling me you can’t even get an A on your Current Events paper?!?”
I guess it’s a good thing I can’t imagine him having any children.
----
xD I thought it was so true, though.
HE'S SO GOOD LOOKING, IT HURTS!
[link] He looks quite pretty there too.
And whaaaa-?! You haven't seen that smile?!
Go. Now! Pay close attention to his fais at the end for the adorable smugness that is Tintin when he knows something you don't know but is going to tell you anyway but still looks smug about it.
I'm not gonna lie. I swooned.

LOL. I've seen that quote too (shows what I do with my spare time...). It's so true
Either that would happen or his kids would be even more badass than he is and be martial arts masters by the age of 3, have traveled to 50 countries before starting school, and have wrestled honey badgers while on holiday in Africa
OR he'd be a horrible influence on them and they'd come home all like, "Daddy, the other kids were teasing me today so I beat them all up just like you do to to people all the time!" xD
And I saw the smile - I just can't remember it!! I'm going to see the movie again, though.

I wonder how he'd find a wife though. Actually, how would he propose to get a wife?!
Probably on top of one of the 7 World Wonders, just casually. While also solving some ancient mystery and shooting down a mass criminal organization.
Just 'cause he can. xD
You can't remember the smile...? D:
Well, when you go see the movie again, TAKE ME WITH YOU, PLEASE! We can sit at the back of the theater and fangirl over Tintin has his prettiness.
... can't believe I called him pretty.
