And then spring came along...It was year 3 since our start in the academy. The empire celebrated it's 1000th year or existence, not knowing that soon it would be its last. And all of us, students, got an extra two weeks of holiday to join the festivities in the capital. It was not a question whether we should go there. Everybody did, and so did we. In retrospective, these two weeks were amazing. They would be the last calm before a long storm coming...
Yeah, I'm trying to illustrate some stuff from Emion that has been lingering in my mind for far too long. I'm trying to make more full illustrations these days.
These four form a group of students in the academy. They're actually quite a part of the story, yet somehow rarely draw them these days. The one in black in the back is called Eric, the one with the red scarf is Sato, the one with the purple shirt is Sato's best buddy, Mente. And the one on the foreground is James. They're a group of four studying in an academy for special powers. The one that know the story for a bit, know that Sato is an infiltrant. He uses his fake student status as a convenient story to cover up his real job (which is far darker than that). But the other students are actually quite naive and unknowing about what's happening in their midst.
For those wondering... Yes... Sato always wears winter clothing, even on hot summer days. Everybody in the story always tells him that he looks absolutely ridiculous, but he needs it to cover most of his skin from the sun, because he's pretty much allergic to direct sunlight.

This is a really nice drawing but if i'm going to be honest you could have done better...
The grass looks nice and the road has a nice colour texture but everything else, I just don't feel it like I do with your other drawings with backgrounds and colour.
I know i'm not great at art as you or a lot of people on this site but I still believe you could of done better...
The cherry blossoms from a far look nice but when they're up close and all you see is pink scribbles it ruins some of the feeling of the drawing.
The water looks meh but still looks nice and I really love the clouds.
I understand if you want to draw something simple and small and I think that's the case but I do like your other drawings more personally.
I know you didn't ask for a critique or anything like that but I would love to see you improve even more.

In all honesty; a huge part of drawing environments is simplification. A lot of anime backgrounds are created like that. Suggestion, rather than doing everything massively detailed.

yeah, I presumed it was meant to be kept simple, just wanted to give out my thoughts.
Just a side note, you shouldn't limit yourself because you wanted the drawing to be like an anime. In manga, a lot of backgrounds are done in massive amount of detail, for example, Berserk, even with some anime the backgrounds sometimes look very realistic. Due to budget cuts in the anime industry, the backgrounds have to be less detailed or either that's the style

Nah, I did put in quite a lot of time in this one, actually. Mostly because I do characters with a lot more ease than environments, I guess.
This piece in general was pretty much Makoto Shinkai inspired. It's something else than the usual stuff I make, which is based more on concept art... which is good... but I feel it clashes a bit with the anime-ish characters I usually do. The blossoms were a conscious choice to suggest there's a least some movement from the wind... since it's often windy near the shore and the ocean makes a lot of ripples too.

I love your art style and I think it's great that your doing something new, in a more anime-ish way.

oh no, I don't think you didn't put enough time. It all depends if you think you put enough time, if you think you did then you did, unless it looks very sketchy and was rushed just to get a drawing out. (Which is NOT the case here)

I especially love the way you drew the trees and the windblown blossoms. This plus the waves of the sea make for an interesting dynamic in contrast to the more static postures of the students in the foreground. I love the effect.
