Description
This is a bit unusual, but hear me out.In my struggle against AI, I wanted to find some productions created in the days when computers where only dreams.
Of course, I found a lot of them, and if I'm referring only to the marvelous Hollywood productions like "Cleopatra" (1963), "Spartacus" (1960) and, of course, the jewel titled "Gone with the wind" (1939), they are milestones of creativity, hard work and dedication. They are also "politically incorrect", of course, because they were made in a time when people were still thinking normal.
However, due to the fact that anyone knows them, I wanted to look for something else, something created out of the once exceptional Hollywood movie industry, something... different.
I intensively searched the internet, and boy, it was tremendously difficult to choose, until I found this marvel, created in 1970 in an Eastern European country called Romania. I won't go into history, but Romania was a communist country at that time, part of the Eastern Block ruled by the USSR (correct me if I'm wrong).
The movie: it is called "MIHAI VITEAZUL" (Michael the Brave - 1558-1601). He was a prince who united the three provinces of Romania - Wallachia, Moldavia and Transylvania, fighting tooth and nail not only the Ottoman Empire, but also the Western Europe Catholic Empires, because both of them wanted to occupy and to rule the mentioned provinces. The only army he had was the local army, Romanian people, peasants, boyars, all of them sacrificing their lives for their country. In the end, he was betrayed by his so-called "allies", being assassinated. Why? Because he was representing a huge threat to the ones who wanted to put their hands on his country.
This movie is a jewel.
No computers, no CGI, nothing artificial. Everything was real. Actors were real, stumbling off their horses, drowning in mud, fighting, hating, loving... HARD, HONEST TO GOD WORK.
If Romania has this kind of people... oh my God.
After watching the movie, I searched for the historical facts, and, to my surprise, the movie was exceptionally accurate in describing what happened then.
This movie is also used at the American Film Institute as an exceptional directed and produced piece of art.
I cried watching the movie, and I'm not ashamed to admit it (a woman CAN cry, right?)
There is so much drama, so many emotions, the scenes are so real and engulfing... it's absolutely amazing.
If this country have such people... I salute you, Romania!
The movie is a two-parter, and can be watched full, in HD, on the links below. Subtitles are in English.

If you're a history buff, if you like epic, if you still have your good, old values, please watch this movie. I promise you, you'll be amazed about what those people could do without using green screens and CGI (can you hear this, Cameron, you little piece of nothing??)
