Description Yet another charcoal!

This is another class asignment, anthropromorphic drapery. ...if I spelled that right. We were supposed to draw cloth which showed a human form... yet did not show a human. It was a fun little challenge. I did this by wrapping some rags around my little wooden man. The photograph is slightly crooked... I really need a good camera with a tripod. This is the 'revised' version for my Mid Semester Portfolio Review, I smoothed out textures, added in more contrasting shades and put a gradiant in the background. Something near 20 hours of work put into this one.

...yes, I know it's the 13th, I'm waiting eagerly as everyone else for this to start. ...yes I know I need to get to my message center. *currently has 20M and 30C* I'll get to all of them soon, promise!

The curves and swirls of the drapery are gorgeous. I love this sort of thing ... I tend to use biro to a similar but finer (not better, just more detailed) effect. However, the overall composition doesn't work all that well...it's not terribly dynamic. But still, the charcoal work is really nice. I'd like to see more abstract stuff like this from you.

That's a very cool Art project... anthropomorphic drapery, I'll have to suggest it to one of my profs. Very nicely done by the way.

That's a very interesting assignment ^^ I have never been good at drawing clothes, but I think you did really great on it! When I first saw the picture I was like..hmm.. this looks very interesting. You did great on shading and lighting, I know, I know.. I just said it again, but really, it's the true!

That's really wonderful. Any kind of comments i would try to make on it would just come across as insignificant, so all I can say is that this is really mind blowing. Cloth is one of the hardest things for me to draw, and with charcoal nonetheless, this is just really amazing. I'm buying you a cookie if I ever meet you.

Remember that other image you showed us from your art class, the one (I believe it was a still life) that had an unintentional face or two hidden in it? I think you've done it again here. Actually I see at least seven faces here. First is the flappy part on the left right by that tube-like shape. The blacker part looks like a profile, while the lighter gray part of it looks like the hair swooping over the head. That blacker part I talked about kind of makes a triangle too and at the lower right of it there's a light gray, four-sided shape that reminds me of a nose and there's an eye-socket right next to it. That face is looking left, but behind that face is another looking right and into the picture a bit. The rounded black shape reminds me of a clown nose. Then right above that round clown nose is a heavy, angular black shape running up the right side that kind of looks like an anime profile. Right on top of the clown face is another face that is kind of parallel (it has about the same value of gray as the clown face). Then on top of that face is another looking right that has an egyptian style eye. The final face is in the "hair" of the first face I mentioned and kind of reminds me of Left hand, if you were looking at a profile of Left Hand's face. I really love all of the values.

Beautiful work, I would kill to be able to do this. Fabric, for some reason, remains elusively above my skill level. I love it! It makes me think - don't ask me why - of one of those fairytales where someone has to disguise themself in an old castle....

...that was really weird...heeheee, sorry! In short, absolutely excellent work.

This rocks. The contrast is stunning, and the subtle form of the piece is amazing as well.

You sense of composition always amazes me. I love how you framed this and how well balanced this is.

You kick some serious ass

Ooh, that's cool! I like the folds in it, folds are pretty hard to draw. I haven't used charcoal that much, though I did a little doodle in my sketchbook of a raven. I only have two pencils, and one of them broke at school since I was carrying it around. Looks great though.

Wrapping it around your doll model?? Now that's just cheating! But it does give you the shape, granted. I'm not getting the overall impression that it's a human, but when I look into all the folds, faces start popping out. I see one on the right and on the left. Not really eyes, but mainly noses and mouths. Anyways, good use of blacks and whites, keep it up!

Sorry, light lunch and no mid-afternoon snack and those folds are too delicious to be believed. =d The suggestion of a person in there is really most niftily done.

oh very cool effect. i remember back in senior year they made us take ribbons and draw them shaping into something else. i drewe a girl's hair into ribbons that formed into another face. it was pretty cool. i like this though. it looks like someone leaning over with alot of hair covering their face. very nice. the shadowing and composition is great too.

Beautiful! Draperies are major beeyyotches!!! There, I said it!! There's just so much that goes to them!!! I really applaud you for the amazing job you did! Just wondering what kind of fabric you used though... It looks fluid in some parts and kinda stiff in others. (I hope you don't mind my saying that ). I! All else looks super duper amazing to me! The shading, the lighting, and the figure are all beautifully executed! Once more, I give you major kudos on the awesome charcoal work!!

You're freakin' awesome!

For small objects like that, you should have used a piece of silk, or some other cloth that's really thin, it would have crumpled smaller and given more interresting folds. Terrific rendering, you're really good with charcoals.
