BEHAVIOR

Lurophants are primarily found in large bodies of water like lakes or oceans. These spites do not pose much of a physical threat, however should any wyngrew look into the eyes of a lurophant they will find themselves inexplicably transfixed by its gaze, unable to move. A wyngro's sudden immobility often gives way to anxiety and confusion, and incites a feeling of helplessness at finding themselves being unable to turn away, all of which feed into a lurophant's preferences. The transfixion is known to be so strong that many a wyngro and wyngling have drowned as they stared into its eye.

During the summer, lurophants have been documented to hide among schools of winkwonks as their similar appearances allows them to go more easily unnoticed. Once a lurophant has acquired a target, it lies in wait for them to venture into the water and will attempt to dart out in front of them once they dip their head below. Its shimmering, wisp-like fins are used to capture their target's attention and draw their line of sight towards its eye.

On occasion these spites are caught in fishing nets, and many a fisherman has found themself rooted to their boat for hours - even days at a time - after accidentally making eye contact with one. This is a bigger problem in small towns, where fishing spots are more remote. While the most common cause of death by lurophant is drowning, it is also possible to starve as a result of being unable to move as well.

HOW TO COMBAT THIS SPITE

Luckily, a lurophant's hold on a wyngro is easily broken by the interference of another wyngro. Lurophants can only fix their gaze on one wyngro at a time, which makes them easy to deal with as long as you aren't alone. Lone lurophants will also never attempt to target groups of wyngro on their own for this very reason. In the event that you may be confronted by more than one lurophant, protective eyewear like goggles have also been documented to disrupt a lurophant's abilities, and are therefore recommended to be worn whenever going out on swimming excursions.

These spites has no physical prowess whatsoever; as such, they are easily dispatched using a blade or any other weapon available. The difficulty in eliminating a lurophant comes from catching it in its aquatic environment, which inhibits the movements of wyngrew that are not capable of utilizing water magic.
