“R-Razul?” called out a small voice in the darkness.

The golden lion lifted his head drowsily from his paws to come face to face with Lucifer. He blinked, shocked at the look of worry on the young cubs features and straightened up into a more alert position.

“What is it son?” he asked gently, beckoning him closer.

Hesitating for a moment, Lucifer walked briskly to Razul and into his awaiting arms. Never before had he accepted such an invitation from his adoptive father, usually turning down the comforting paws before him by distracting the lion with a question, but instead he curled into a ball beside a confused Razul, burying his head in his vast brown mane.

“Luc?” questioned Razul nervously.

He had never acted so affectionately before; why start now? Had something terrible happened?
Peeking up at the male, Lucifer smiled weakly.

“I-I just…I never…thank you…f-for all you have done for me, father.”

Razul was stunned to silence. Not only had Lucifer never showed him affection before, but also he had never called him father before. Truly, tonight was a night of firsts.
Recovering, Razul smiled down warmly at his son before pulling him closer and nuzzling his head gently with his own.

“You do not need to thank me, my son. I will always be here for you, and I will always help you, no matter what. That is what I am here for.”
