I drew the initial version of this piece at 4 AM after watching a music video for a sappy love song. It was a quick sketch, but it captured the sense of restrained anger I felt at the time, given that I was fresh off a summer romance.

I eventually worked this character into a short story, in which he pursues his ex-girlfriend, only to find the very nature of his reality start to unravel.

I added more details to the sketch two years later when I finished the story. Finally, in 2020, I inked the piece in Illustrator as part of a project to refine and sell some of my favorite work.
