I did use a reference photo. And I'm planning on doing other Final Fantasy drawing because I really like the artwork, never played the game.

Well I have to say that is the best, and most wicked Final Fantasy fan art I have seen yet. Everything is intense. The shading. over shoulder look, like he is glaring at you. The detail in the sword is equally impressive. The shoulder pad is also great, looks battle worn for sure. Amazing job.
