This is another carving I'm working on for the guy I did the grape leaves designs for. This one I'm carving on is apple wood. Another first for me. The wood is quite challenging. In some areas it is quite hard and in other areas very soft.....like cardboard. To be honest, I wasn't sure about this one, but once again, a change in technique and I think it is going to turn out alright. As always, thanks so much for viewing.

wow.... very nice!Β I tried Dremeling letters out of 1x6 cedar, & the bit wouldn't cut thought the raised hard grain, then it would plunge into soft spots between.Β Very difficult to get consistency

For that kind of a job a router works well. You set the router bit at a specific depth and follow the pattern/letters. As I'm thinking of it, you can buy a flat bit and use it in the dremel to do lettering free hand, but, depth can be a challenge as you have found out.
