For some weird reason, the moment I saw this image, just this small crop of what I'm sure is going to be an even bigger and much grander painting, the intro to Led Zeppelin's "When the Levee Breaks" suddenly began to play in my head.
Rest assured, I pre-ordered this beast of a book. Shame I couldn't get my hands on the first edition of this book back in 2010, but it's okay, I'll be happy knowing I got a second (or third?) edition of what I'm sure is going to be a killer book.

I agree with ~Mauijam , to an extent. The blur of the shell ruins it for me. It it were clear, I'd like it much better (I'd also expect you to put something on it like you put on everything else to give it that flair)

Dude... brosef, I'm always honest and fair about my comments. This one looks badass and awesome but the shell casing for some reason just ruins it, it sticks out so much to me. Too bright perhaps? Unsure, but as I said the rest looks awesome, straight legendary in my eyes.

Ooh he is a fine specimen of a killing machine! Love that ejected shell/cartridge/bullet. My lack of gun technology shows my hidden gay side...actually, that would be the first sentence on reflection.

its a Shotgun Shell.
you can tell because pretty much only shotgun shells have the red plastic instead of a brass casing
the reason is because while a brass cartridge has a bullet at the end to keep it a closed cartridge,
a shotgun shell instead has a folded and crimped plastic end which keeps the Shot (many tiny pelllets) from falling out.
When the gunpowder in a shotgun shell explodes, it forces the Shot past the plastic end of the shell, which flowers out and presses against the walls of the barrel so the plastic end is straight again by the time the shot leaves out the business end of the barrel.
Not all shotgun shells are made of exclusively red plastic, however it is the most iconic image of a shotgun shell.
Now you can't say you didn't learn something today.
