Description The UH-60 Black Hawk is a medium twin-engine multirole helicopter built by Sikorsky Aircraft. Sikorsky submitted the S-70 design to the U.S. Army's 1972 U.S. Army Tactical Multipurpose Transport Aircraft System (UTTAS) competition. The U.S. Army named the prototype YUH-60A and selected it. selected the Black Hawk as the winner for this program in 1976, following a test flight competition with the Boeing Vertol YUH-61. The UH-60A entered Army service in 1979, replacing the UH-1 Iroquois as the Army's tactical transport helicopter. The UH-60A entered service with the US Army in 1979 to replace the Bell UH-1 Iroquois helicopter as a tactical transport helicopter. But later on, more UH-60 helicopters appeared in electronic warfare along with a number of helicopters modified for special operations. Two advanced multi-role helicopters UH-60L and UH-60M have been produced. Modified versions were also produced for the Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard. In addition to being used by the US Army, the UH-60 family of helicopters is also exported to a wide range of countries. Black Hawks have served in combat in conflicts such as Grenada, Panama, Iraq, Somalia, the Balkan Peninsula, Afghanistan and other areas of the Middle East.
