Description
These photographs are apart of a series of 20 images that have been completed over the last four months. In my personal work, the ideas expressed in traditional photography are my main source of inspiration. The pursuit of composition, light, clarity, and personal perfection remain in my thoughts and processes until completion. The compositions invite the viewer in, concerning them only with what is there. Working with medium format cameras forces me to slow down and make every exposure count towards the goal while still allowing for flexibly and mobility. All exposures made in this series are hand held without the aid of anything mechanical, which works to emphasize my personal pursuit of compositions that engage the eye.
This latest series of photographs revolves around the concept of deterioration. Textured surfaces of wood, metal, fabric, and plastic show their weaknesses when placed against the natural elements. These images do not only reflect the area in which the photographs were taken, but also the state of the changing medium. I see the surfaces of as relating to the artificiality of the digital age, and the natural forces being the everlasting tradition and history. Viewers are forced to engage the compositions and look into its eyes, as if they were confronted by a battered fighter in the final round, never knowing whether to give up or to push on.
All photographs are film negatives, gelatin silver prints. *Ignore the shitty metadata crap to the right!!
