My favorite "portrait" lens is actually a macro lens (Canon 100mm f/2.8 usm). I've owned it for over a year but never actually used it for it's intended use until a couple of weeks ago when I decided to try it out on my buddy Marty's eye. If you're not familiar with photography terms, a macro lens is a lens that's intended for extreme close-up photos of very small objects. This one in particular also makes an incredible portrait lens.
