Description
A Shinigami's Spirit Thread is red. A Vaizard's is...

The original idea I had for this was Ichigo holding a red Shinigami thread, Shiro holding a black one, and the resulting mix looking something like the bankai Getsuga Tenshou: black with red edges. But, you know, that requires color. I may color this eventually, but for now, I kind of like the contrasts of the black and white.

My scanner tried to kill this a little when I scanned it in. I cleaned it up a little in photoshop, which helped a little, but now it looks kind of like I inked it rather than penciled it.

My drawing skills also tried to kill this, but eventually I prevailed!
I used two reference pics for this, one for Ichigo and one for Shiro.
What you can't really tell from this, though, is just how close to the edge of the paper Shiro is. I accidentally drew Ichigo too close to the middle of the page instead of off to the right more. Consequently, the reference picture I was using for him had his right hand going off the edge of the paper. For obvious reasons, this was a bad thing. I tried to look up a second reference picture for him holding his arm up more, but eventually I just free handed it with no references. I also free handed both of his hands (I used my reference pic for Ichigo's).
I kind of wish that it wasn't so... straight up in the air... But that's what happens when it's so close to the edge of the paper.
So, yeah. Until I cleaned it in photoshop, that whole area was incredibly smudge-tastic due to how much I erased and redrew and erased and redrew... The fact that he's holding a black ribbon in that same area didn't help.

Oh yeah. Did I mention how much I hate ribbons? Or anything free-flowing, like hair and clothes, for that matter? At least clothes I've sort of figured out. And I'm trying to get there with hair (it still looks pretty bad, though). But ribbons? @_@ For a while, it looked like both of them just had snakes or tubes wrapped around their arms instead of ribbons. So yeah, that's why the one in the back isn't doing anything elaborate. Haaaaate.

I was originally going to make the part of the ribbon down at the bottom come up over the top of where Shiro's hand would be, and over their arms to come up the middle. This didn't work out so good, partially because I wasn't sure how I would transition the colors and partially because I sketched in their arms and Shiro's hand and then decided I liked them there. So, meh.

Overall, I'm actually fairly pleased with how it all came out, particularly considering I didn't use references for some of it. Ichigo's face looks weird, for some reason. I think it's too short. Or I don't have his jawline angled up enough. Or something. I'm not sure.
Shiro looks sort of like he's contemplating using his half of their spirit thread to strangle Ichigo while he has his back turned. o.O
(That isn't necessarily a bad thing, just an observation...)
