Description
“Boy, it sure is a long way down.” Emma remarked casually. “Maybe they mean Tabantha Great Bridge as in ‘a great height’?”Link didn’t know, but, that wasn’t what was on his mind. He couldn’t help but notice that Emma was walking right in the middle of the bridge. Remembering her conversation with Kass the Rito about the height of the bridge, Link felt the need to ask her a pressing question.
“A Rito form?” She repeated, not looking at him, as Mia chased after a Thunderwing Butterfly. “You mean like my Zora one and my Goron one?”
Link nodded.
“Oh, yes, I’ve got a Rito form as well,” Emma confirmed, not taking her eyes off of Mia as the Remlit pranced dangerously close to the edge of the bridge. “You’ve seen it before, just not recently, for ... reasons . . . “
She didn’t seem keen to explain to Link what those reasons were and, it didn’t matter. Because, just then, something very interesting happened.
The Thunderwing Butterfly decided to make a break for freedom - over the edge of the bridge - and Mia seemed more than ready to follow it.
Unthinkingly, Link rushed forwards and grabbed the Remlit. He had forgotten about the recent rains, though; apart from drawing out the electric insects, the downpour had also made the bridge extra slippery.
Which is why both Link and Mia went over the edge of the bridge.
Too late, Link realised his mistake; as Mia struggled out of his grip and extended her huge ears (all the while giving Link an incredibly reproachful look), and Link tried hard not to think about how height this bridge actually was, he heard a panicked voice from somewhere above him.
“Your Paraglider, Link! Your Paraglider!”
Oh, of course. Whatever would he do without Emma? Of course it was her that had said that, and not the Thunderwing Butterfly which Link imagined must be looking incredibly smug by that stage.
Link didn’t like to think of what he’d do without Emma, even as he now floated gently down towards the floor of the canyon. It now became apparent that the canyon floor had been a lot closer than he’d realised which, given the height of the bridge itself meant that he had been falling at an extremely rapid rate.
As he came to a rest on the canyon floor, Link heard Emma calling: “Mia! Stay with him! I’ll come and find you both!”
Link’s eyes widened. He wanted to call out to her to stay put, that he would go to her - he would climb the canyon walls if he had to - but, just then, a new voice interrupted his thoughts.
“Greetings, Brother!”
It was a Goron, of course it had to be a Goron (they were just about the only ones that called every other male non-relative ‘brother’). But, what was one doing all the way down here?
As Mia landed on Link’s shoulder, he slowly turned around . . .
