Description Title: "Change"
Project: "Draw your own Naruto Cover" by Viz Media (shonenjump.viz.com/node/2327)

My Goal: Show how the main character of the series is changing is appearance with his own surprise. That's done by splitting in two the art, making the left side his new self and the right side his old self. Some of the new elements are slowly taking form (like the bandage around Naruto's hand), while others are fading away (see the hair or the backside of the headband). To make the "change" more stunning, I used two different color palettes for the outfit and the skin and I added a pixel-transitioning effect for the skin. The background is showing a gaming-style evolution behind Naruto, while the sky is in abstract form. The "Weekly Shonen Jump" logo is colored with red and orane shades, symbolizing Naruto's color (orange), the traditional color of his clan (red) and his Will of Fire.

Drawing method: The character model has been hand-drawn first with a simple pencil, then finalized with a permanent pen (Stabilo OHPen Universal - Size S - 841/46). The sheet with the original art has been scanned in high quality and corrected where necessary. Meanwhile, the drawing has been copied and I tested the possibile color outcome using watercolor crayons (see links below). At this point I portrayed what I had in mind, using digital coloring with Photoshop. And this the final result.

Rules: There's been quite a confusion about the contest rules. The only important requirement is to draw the lines (lineart) by hand. The coloring is up to the artist (traditional or digital), same for the logo and the background,

although it is preferable to do it by hand too. This submission is following the established rules.

Here you can download the lineart (original b/w hand-drawn drawing), the watercolor crayons version (which was useful for the final digital color cover) and the final colored drawing without effects and touch-ups (can be used as render).

You know when i look at that cover i can’t believe i have to say this but your cover is superior to mine, My cover well versions of them:  joey2132132.deviantart.com/gal…  traditional and digital with colour both traditional  (sketch pen and color pencils) and digital (photoshop) has naruto looking at us one last time to us the readers since we been there with him from the beginning till the end and has a calm smile on his face because peace has returned to the shinobi world.

But your cover it looks amazing showing naruto transitioned from teenager to adult since it is the represents that naruto has matured and truly becomes a great hero and it also signals that the manga series ended but not before we see one last time in the manga epilogue movie ‘The last’.

Also about the logo it has naruto colours similar to mine the traditional one except i only put it in ‘weekly’ only with color pencils while the ‘shonen’ has black with jump word remaining uncoloured to consider it as a symbolisation.  joey2132132.deviantart.com/art…

And about what you said about getting confused by the contest rules yeah i felt the same thing in fact i feel so confused i submitted all my entries full digital, full traditional and hall digital and half traditional you know what i mean.

Anyway you cover looks supreme to mine that maybe kishimoto will like it but i wonder even though probably won’t like my cover maybe you can tell what you think of the covers i made:  joey2132132.deviantart.com/gal…
