Description

Many snakes, especially those with innate magical capabilities, have a closer possibility to becoming a naga in the right circumstances.... So lets look at the Tsuchinoko first.

Tsuchinoko are fat little snake creatures that are generally only a foot or two long at most, but are usually relatively short and very fat little snake creatures. Though they are small and round, they actually possess a supernatural lunging capability, and can jump upwards of 3 feet into the air, and sometimes higher as they can use the air as a cushion of sorts and use it to leap a second time while within the air. They also are able to secrete a venom which causes those bit by the Tsuchinoko to experience effects similar to Inebriation.

The snakes have the ability to speak English, and a propensity to drink alcohol, which may be why they are able to inflict such a fitting venom with a single bite. Tsuchinoko can speak and will often share stories for food and drink, however they do have a tendency to lie. They possess a spark of knowledge and understanding, and Tsuchinoko often possess information and secrets said to have been earned by Eden the first serpent long ago. This grants them minor psychic powers, mostly to prevent themselves from being found, to double jump, to throw their voices, or to levitate small objects. With the knowledge Tsuchinoko possess, they will often trick humans into giving them things so they can spread their knowledge, in attempts to then lie to them in the future. Due to the knowledge on esoteric topics that they possess, they are likely to know secrets which can drive humans insane, or addict them to the knowledge, and so meeting a Tsuchinoko can be very problematic. Tsuchinoko are very rare, and if one is captured it can be sold for large sums of money. Some kingdoms or high powered spellcasters keep them and try to use the information they possess to their advantage. Not All Tsuchinoko are liars, and some are very friendly. Witches that are able to capture the creatures sometimes use them as familiars.....

Some Tsuchinoko whom either learn enough esoteric knowledge, or whom are praised and granted divine precedent over an area, shed their skins and become Naga. Like other forms of Naga, the Naga Tsuchinoko is a semi-divine creature which possesses humanoid qualities in tandem with those of a serpent. Naga Tsuchinoko grow their Naga Mindstones within their heads, and they usually take the form of some sort of pearl. They already possessed much eldritch knowledge before, however once they have successfully made the transformation they become much more knowledgeable about many more subjects and can utilize their ability to forsee what telling secrets may do to creatures. They possess much hidden knowledge, and with it their psychic power ascends with them and allows them access to much more psionic ability such as true telekinesis of larger objects, telepathy in some situations, and they gain a stunning stare ability they didn't previously possess. They learn to spit their venom, inebriating creatures effected by it, and they can often infect other's minds by pushing it from one creature to another. Tsuchinoko use this foresight they now possess to aid in their lying, which allows them to forsee if a creature will believe their lie or not and allows it to make different choices. In addition this ability allows them to read minds and know what creatures desire.

Because of this Tsuchinoko can come to be prophets of sorts, though many of them are false idols or false prophets and are worshipped inshrines by small sects of followers, usually in small hidden towns or communities where not much is known about Tsuchinoko. Tsuchinoko that do this usually attempt to help the village or settlement so long as they are paid in some way. Some are followers of the father of Serpents, Yig, however, and they often tell horrible truths that convert creatures to become followers of the serpent....

Tsuchinoko are usually fairly small, however one who is continuously fed and pampered, or given many feasts, much to drink, and are generally left to revel in their gluttony, they can become Giant Tsuchinoko. Colossal versions of the smaller snakes with insatiable appetites and a much more dangerous disposition....
