Description
A brief buzzing of a light broke the silent atmosphere of the darkened clinic, which was then enlightened by the cold light it gave off, sighing a sigh only a tired man could he suffled into the cooly lit room. He tiredly hung his thin layered coat on the back of the door from which he had entered the room, through the window that sat opposite the enterance he could see the condensation that clung to the window, and the gradualy brighening morrning sky beyond the dark evergreens that grew around the building. The tired man proceded to suffle towards a large well used oak desk, sitting down in the more comfortable but cool swiveling arm chair he lifted the name plage from its fallen position and straightend it again. The name on the plage although scratched and scuffed read "Dr R.Whattson", Richard Whattson rubbed one of his eyes and gave out a quiet yawn before opening a drawer near the top of the desk, inside was dull and cold but not damp thankfully. He reached in and lifted out a small bottle for putting pills in, Richard gently shook the bottle a brief rattle could be heard from inside he then proceded to open it as he would do everyday, tapping the bottle a single long yellow tinted pill fell out into his hand. This was one of his pills that he took daily to control his emotional outbursts, which would lead to him hurting himself and attempting to hurt others if something particular was on his mind, these emotions were not his own so chose to keep them locked away for everyones safety. He swallowed the pill and let out a soft sigh "Marcus and the others will be coming in soon, better go check if the supplies came in last night, heh no note left as usall", Richard gently pushed his hands against the desk as his chair swung around he pushed himself up onto his feet, still dragging his feet every few steps as he stroled down the hall. As grey as it looked the walls were in fact a soft brown on them were some scuff marks here and there from more hostile patients, he ran his fingers down the hall walls as he walked. His fingers met a door frame Richard paused and glanced over at the door muttering to himself under his breath "supply store staff access only" he let out another tired sigh and gave a light smirk as his hand droped from the frame and dove into his pocket. He rustled around for a moment before finding his staff key, lining it up with the key hole he pushed it into place and turned it, the other side of the door was dull the air there was slightly damp, his hand ran along the inside of the wall to find the light switch, a warm glow filled the room which was gently reflected by the steel frames of the shelves. Looking around the room Richard saw that some equipment had not been put away and there was an unopened box on the floor near the untidy equipment, he ran his hand through his wavy coal dark hair and gave a more disapointed sigh "i thought i left a note to keep this place tidy, looks like they listen as well as some of my patients" he chuckled a little and put away the equipment and opened the box. Inside was the next supply of pills he had ordered for himself and the patients, he put away the pills for the patients and was about to pick up his own when a knock came from the door he had entered "hey Ric, early as usual i see" the young voice said brightly, he knew who it was without looking "indeed i am Austin, but werent u suppost to lock up last night" called Ric picking up his bag of pills and the box,"uh hehh sorry about that Ric i had to go get my own health checked on" attmited Austin shamefully "i can work over time if u really want". "Overtime? No you dont have to but you could remind me if the supplies have arrived, anyway we should go check in on reseption, anyone else in yet?", the young alburn haired man leaned against the frame of the door and looked up at the ceiling trying to remember "i dont think so" he said after a minute "Kirsten will be in to cover reception in another few mins tho" Ric sighed once more moving past Austin and out the door "better get a move on then, im going to leave my stuff off ill be with you in a sec" Austin peered his head out of the frame and down the hall "um okay then ill put the kettle on then too will i?", Ric was already nearly at his office door humbing some tune along the way, he smirked a bit closed the door and walked to reception ready to greet Kirsten.
As Richard left off his things and refilled this pill bottle in the drawer, he noticed another bottle about the same size as his own dwelling in the same drawer "this wasnt here before" he stated to himself after picking it up and giving it a quick rattle "a full bottle?", he quickly put the bottle down on the desk and pulled the drawer right out to see if anything else out of place was there.
Looking at the now lit insides of the drawer the contents were more clear there was just a small clipboard with his patients names and... "what is this?" He gently pulled a sticky note off one of the papers on the clipboard, and looked at it under the cold light of the room, "just some new medication Richard nothing to worry about" was scribbled in a messy manner and signed at the bottom with a "(・・?)"with a blue ink pen on the note, although the ink was dry it wasnt there 5 minutes ago. He put both the note and the strange bottle in his pocket with his key and inserted the drawer back into the desk. Now more awake he walked back down the hall to where Austin was in reciption, "Austin" He called out when about half way down the hall, however no reply came from the younger man in the building with him "Austin are you there?" This time calling a bit louder, with still no reply. Concerned as to what had happened he quickend his step. Ric quickly glanced around the reception room, his and Austins cards were both punched in and there was no sign of Kirsten yet, opening the door into the back of reception he found Austin with earphones in ear and music blareing out of them, he gave out a suttle sigh of relief and put a hand on his shoulder.
"Huh? Whats up Ric you look a bit off" he said abit surprised as he took the music away from his ears, Richard looked at him for a second then proceded to ask "you didnt leave anything in my drawer before you came to the store, did you?", "nope if i wanted to give you something id do it in person" he replyed looking at his collige's fatigued apperance "did someone leave something or whatever?".
Richard just stood there with a puzzled face, siveting his hand through his hair "yea, someone or something did " he sighed again and stuck his other hand in his pocket and pulled out the note and bottle, "these are just your meds aren't they?" asked Austin as he glanced over curious as to see what was up with him."no, no they're not i took the last one i had earlier and put it into my drawer, when i went back to my room this was with the empty bottle. You got any idea what kind of pills they are?" Richard placed the stange bottle along with note into his open hand, Austin proceded to open the small bottle and looked inside with one eye whilst squinting the other, screwing the top back on again he then started to examined the note "well?" Asked Ric a bit unnerved by the incident at this point ,"welllll i don't really know pal, never seen them type meds before dont look like anythin bad though" he handed the bottle back to Richard who then proceeded to put it back into his pocket "so was this note thing with it too?" Ric gave a quick nod then quickly added "not your writting is it", "heh corse not i dont got the scribles of a five year old, dunno who's it is the smiley thing is a bit wierd" he replyed giving the note back then finnished pouring the hot water into cups for both of them, then slid a cup of coffee over the counter towards the worried looking man.
Ric thanked him and had begun to stare into his coffee cup as he drifted deeper into thought.
Kirsten the youngest member of staff arrived with a brown satchel on one sholder with her ginger plat hanging over the other, Austin went out and greeted her whilst Ric still stared down at the warm brown liquid that gently swirled round the inside his cup letting out a sigh as they entered the room, "heya Richard those supplies come in after i leave then?"called a loud yet soft voice. Richard still stood hunched over the counter stareing down the cup that sat there, after a moment he realised Kirsten was leaning against the table and had picked up the papers that lay there, he quickly lifted his head and stood up straight "oh hey Kirsten.. didnt see you there", she gave a light smile as she walked over to the kettle near where he was standing "are you alright Richard? Ya look a tad distracted" he paused for a moment "uh oh yea im.. Fine" muttered the doctor barely loud enough for anyone to hear, as he picked up the cup from the counter about to sip it but then stared stareing into it again.
When the two of them were seated Austin started briefly explaining to Kirsten what had happened before she had arrived, "oh okay then, Richard" she asked turning her head in the direction of the dark haired man, he slowly lifted his head up to face hers showing that he was paying attention whilst Austin fiddled with a few sugar cubes and a spoon on the table trying to stay out of the conversation.
"Rich-" the door opened violently with a bang. The dark haired man jumped and splashed coffee on his already dark shirt scalding him slightly as a result of the unexpected noise, all three turned to face the door Austin nearly falling off his chair in the process. In the door way stood a strong bodied man, with tightly cut hair and an aged face comprised of a deprived glare, "shouldnt you all be going through your patient files and listing the appointments, this is not a daycare!" cawed a croaky voice. This was Marcus their head of management a strict man but a friend to anyone who could tolorate his personality, the two at the table imediately rose from their place and went to work. Richard stinging with the pain swiftly went to the sink got a damp cloth which he pressed onto his chest and spread some paper towels on the floor, mopping up the liquid while he cerresed the cloth to his body. Marcus walked over to Ric and helped him to his feet, then opened the first aid box from the corner of the counter and pulled out a tube of germaline for the scald along with a bandage setting them beside him he stated "you outa be more careful Whattson good thing its not too bad, fix yourself up and you can show me your flies when your all patched up", applying the cream to his skin Whattson replyed "th-thank you sir, ill tidy this place too" Marcus nodded to his reply and walked out of the room closing the door behind him.
Richard's pain was starting to desolve however a sickness soon churned up his stomach
