In terms of speculative evolution...

"Fluffy" is a Dwarf Yeti that got smaller in size due to insular dwarfism, the same adaptive mechanism that makes some island animals dwarf species.

They are classified in crypto zoological terms as "Hominid Arcticus Horridus" - meaning Horrible Man of the Arctic.

However, though they got much smaller in size, to compensate for this, as well as the scarce food sources in the Arctic, they became much more savage.

You can also see these vicious changes in aggressive demeanor among Tasmanian Devils, another small, but savage creature.

It's still a primate, but it did develop some very advantageous traits that have to do with its often extremely cold habitat.

Like Artic Greenland Sharks, that can slow their anti-freeze blood so much that they can take on long periods of suspended animation during colder seasons -- Fluffy, too, can do much the same.

This is why, he was transported in the crate with such ease, with no real activity, as he was still in a torpor of suspended animation that may have lasted for years!

Though this is unseen in primates, there are some primates that may be adapting to colder temperatures, such as Japanese Snow Monkeys.

In their natural habitat, there horrid little beasts feed on seals and penguins.

In some cases native Inuit tribes recall them as hunting in small tribal pacts, and even attribute the beasts as devouring an entire village on one Solstice season in the 1840's!

But this does not mean they, too, are not predated on.

Early whalers that sailed the coast of Antarctica, an entire pole away, where some say this Dwarf Yeti species also exists, had witnessed Leopard Seals making a meal of a few very primate-like creatures, to which now, the hunters attribute to being Dwarf Yeti.

Even in prehistoric times, there is some evidence of their predation, as giant carnivorous Penguins 9 feet tall, had unidentified primate bones in their ice-preserved nests - meaning that perhaps the giant Penguins, too, fed on the Dwarf Yeti, if they could catch one alone.

It's this manic prey and predator activity, that showcases just how harsh living was in their time and environment, which also points as to why such a small primate became so incredibly aggressive!

Fluffy the Crate Beast, also simply known as Fluffy, is the main antagonist in Stephen King's short story "The Crate", which was shown as a segment in the 1982 horror film Creepshow. He was portrayed by Darryl Ferrucci.

"He wanted to measure the bite marks, Henry. I guess he got his chance!"

―A fearful and hysterical Dexter Stanley on one of Fluffy's victims.

Fluffy the Crate Beast is a man-eating Arctic monster in the 1982 Stephen King horror anthology film Creep show, in the segment entitled "The Crate". He was played by Darryl Ferrucci.

WARNING: Spoilers...

A janitor named Mike Latimer, who worked at Horlicks University was cleaning there at the zoology department at Amberson Hall, flipped a coin to decide whether to wash the hall or buff the lab windows, drops the coin and rolls underneath the stairs, discovers a crate and on the crate it has writing on it about the Arctic Expedition on June 19, 1834.

Mike calls Professor Dexter Stanley about it. Professor Stanley comes over to Amberson Hall and he and Mike the janitor move the crate from under the stairs and take it to the lab. When they open the crate, they discover that the crate contains an ape-like monster which devours Mike the janitor in front of the horrified professor who runs for help.

A student named Charlie Gereson, whom he runs to is Fluffy's next victim and the professor once again runs for help.

Another professor Henry Northrup suspects that his friend's story may be a way for him to be rid of his shrewish wife Wilma Northrup, which happens when Fluffy devours her. Afterwards, Henry chains the crate and takes the crate to Ryder's Quarry and dumps it into the lake with Fluffy in it.

As the two men are assume that Fluffy is dead, Fluffy has proved to have survived and breaks out of the crate to wreak more havoc on shore.

Behavior:

As one would expect, the beast does not speak or attempt to communicate in any way. It can seemingly never be calmed or pacified in any sense when its prey is nearby, and simply kills and feeds at any chance it gets without hesitation.

Given that it was discovered and captured some time in the 1800s, it was stored away in a university without making any sound or drawing attention to itself, also surviving without the need to feed for an unfathomably long time.

Whether the beast was hibernating in some way or showing unrealistic amounts of patience is unknown, but either way, the creature didn't show any emaciation or loss of strength during any time the viewer watches the beast attack.

The one and only time the beast seemed to back down was when Henry Northrup managed to carefully place a lock around the crate's chains to contain it.

At this moment, Fluffy tried to break free but couldn't, then slid his claws back into the crate, making a defeated whimpering sound, and remained quiet until the end of the segment.

A common act of Fluffy is that it never attempts to leave its crate.

It carries its prey back to its crate, and has even moved the crate itself back to where it found and stays there.

It is possible that the creature only attacks in self-defense, as the viewer never sees Fluffy make an escape, no matter how open that chance may be.

Furthermore, it is only at the end of the segment that Fluffy breaks out of its crate, with its future actions unknown.

REMARKS:

Fluffy the Crate Beast is based on the cryptid Yeti that is presumed to live in the Himalayan mountains.

It's unclear of how Fluffy the Crate Beast was imprisoned in the first place, who imprisoned him and if he is seeking revenge after being thrown off the cliff.
