Based on "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" by Lewis Carroll, this image shows the white rabbit in Wonderland. This image was created for a Valentine's Day card using copic markers and pen and ink. Most people are not aware of the heavy symbolism in the story of Alice in Wonderland. The White Rabbit with his pocket watch is filled with symbolism...too much so to cover in a brief synopsis.

The rabbit which Alice chases is an allusion to the story of the Tortoise and the hare, one of Aesop's fables for which Lewis Carroll was very familiar with having written a poem concerning this race. Alice in the story takes the place of the tortoise who is chasing, as if in a race, the hare. Aesop's fable is an illustration of Zeno's paradox, the concept of the impossibility of infinite divisibility. Time, like distance is infinitely divisible into smaller and smaller and smaller moments. Since every moment is infinitely divisible into infinitely smaller time segments, and one can not have an infinite time within a finite time, according to this paradox, time can not mathematically exist. Thus Alice falls through the rabbit hole having entered a paradoxical state where time both exist and yet can not exist. The white rabbit furthermore is an ancient symbol for goddess worship, the shape-shifting Eostre, or the Celtic version of Ostara, was a goddess also associated with the moon, and with mythic stories of death, redemption, and resurrection during the turning of winter to spring. The origin for the word Easter.
