Description

A very motherly figure if I ever saw one! Since we've met Sujin's younger sister Mei and her father, I thought it would only be fitting if we met her mother, An. Or technically Song An if you want to get into the whole family name business thing.

An is a stern and somewhat authoritative woman, but all for good reason. In her younger years she was once in the greatest dance and theater groups of all the empire, performing in the great operas and ballets of the time. Unfortunately, even with the most diligent discipline and training, her joints just couldn't keep up with the acrobatics and ballet, rendering her to retire at a relatively young age (as with all ballet dancers) and instead settled down with a chef she met on one of her tours. Her pursuit of perfection and her husband's desire to please resulted them in creating a tavern that proved to be fairly successful... That is, until she had her first daughter that kind of threw everything into a loop.

An and Sujin have a rocky relationship. An assumed that her hard hand would be enough to push her "too early" daughter into something other than staying home at the tavern... Surely a woman of great girth and strength could succeed in sports or the military... Surely with music lessons she could be in the music halls... With the right kind of discipline, she could take after her father... Why does her daughter bring her such shame? Her other children have great ambition and goals... After all, An pushed herself to succeed despite the odds and all the rules she had to follow, why can't her eldest daughter do the same? She isn't doing this because she's wicked, she only wants the best for her children...

...

I don't know about you others, but despite the harsh personality, I really like this character design. She's a nice contrast to what I usually do, and I'd like to see what more I can explore of her character and the rest of Sujin's family members. That's just if I keep focused on it and don't get distracted by something else.
