Description
A typical morning-February 14th, 2120, 3:54 AM-
I awoke when something literally flopped on my chest, waking with a startled groan, blinking open; on the blanket which covered my chest was a white and black lump or fur curled up in a ball, purring. I reached out and started petting it when the head turned and started at me with piercing blue eyes, purring.
"What did I tell you about waking me up Mimi?" I griped out.
The cat, Mimi, if you will, tilted her head and bumped my chest with it and purred even more, occasionally stopping to look at me with a cute expression.
"Stupid cat, better be 5'o clock…" I muttered while reaching out for the nearby alarm clock, and grabbed it, it read 4:05AM, but it was actually 3:55AM, I set it ten minutes ahead to motivate me more, wasn't working.
"Okay," I muttered, angrily, "Off now."
I rocked my body a bit and Mimi finally got the message and leapt off as I sat up, letting the blanket roll down and felt as cool air hit my exposed chest, I shook my head and pulled myself out of bed and walked out of my bedroom into the interior of my apartment, it wasn't very large, probably about five-hundred square feet or so, but it's comfy.I walked out into the hall and pulled a sticky note tab I laid on the wall the night before and read it. 'Do Laundry today, Project due today, remember to see Jessie about what she needs.' I rolled up the note and tossed it in a nearby overflowing recycle bin, I reached into the nearby laundry basket and pulled a black shirt, on the front it said: "I used up all my sick days, so I borrowed yours." In blocky white letters I slipped it on, but didn't bother to change my jeans.
After slipping on the shirt, I walked to the front door, where I heard creaking to my left and looked to see a lump rise from a chair and paddled on over to me, I reached out and a head thrust itself into my hand and I started scratching, gingerly, or course.
"Hey George", I muttered, as so as to not wake the two other residents in my apartment, how are you doing?"
As if to answer, he yawned his squeaky puppy yawn before shaking his head.
"I can relate," I muttered, "Did anyone try to get in last night?" As if in response, he just stared at me.
"Okay, look, I don't need the chair for now, so you can still sleep in it."
As soon as I said "I don't need the chair" he turned around, waddled to the chair and pulled himself up to it and lay down on it before I could even finish the sentence.
I opened the door and walked outside, mindful to keep it unlocked, lest I have to climb in through the window again, and that nearly got me bit, by my own dog. I leaned down on the rail and front of me and just stared out, looking at the city nearby while still trying to stay awake, it wasn't very cold, about fifty degrees or so, but as I looked down, there was someone I saw when I moved here on his front porch, with a coat and shivering and I scoffed, wussies, as soon as it dropped below sixty, on comes the coats and complaints. Walking back in, I lumbered to the bathroom and looked in the mirror, I looked beat, my usual brown hair in a tangled mess, while my eyes looked as if I needed another eight hour sleep, I ran the sink and slashed some water onto my face, and nearly violently kicked behind me when something rubbed on my left leg, looking down, I saw a little brown and black tabby staring at me with green eyes that looked too big for it, reaching down I petted while muttering
"Stinker, damn it, you nearly gave me a heart attack." Stinker took a bit of petting, then padded away and turned and gave me this sympathetic look.
"Okay," I sighed, "Food time."
I followed Stinker to a small drawer I had space cleared for, on the top say a small black plastic bowl I kept out of a breakfast box, and a small bag of cat food, I reached down, scooped her up, and deposited her on the top, where she eagerly went to the bowl and started nibbling on the food. I watched for a bit, and then felt some grumbling of my own.
"Speaking of which, breakfast also." I thought curly.
Heading towards the kitchen, I fished a bowl out of a nearby empty cabinet, grabbed the nearby Captain Crunch box, and poured some cereal, and fished out some milk out of the fridge to pour in, after doing this and letting it settle a bit, I grabbed another sticky note, and jotted down 'Do dishes today, go shopping soon' I pondered a bit, and added 'Do some more deadbeat jobs.' and slapped it on the fridge with an audible smack.
As I was on my way to my living room, a nose eagerly poked where the sun doesn't shine and I stumbled and managed to catch my balance, set down the bowl and reach down where a nose popped excitedly into my hand and immediately licked it, which I recoiled with disgust shook my hand and muttered,
"Dang it Fred," I spoke angrily, "What did I say about licking me?" I reached down and pet her, but kept it brief because of the licking factor, settled onto my chair and started eating my cereal while I watched the news, speaking of which, why is the news usually bad news? Do they get some extra money for every bad news piece or something like that?
After finishing my breakfast, I washed out the bowl and glanced at the clock, 5:45 AM, I grunted and put the bowl on a pile to the right and walked back to my room, I walked to the nearby desk and grabbed my IPod and cell phone and shoved them into my right pocket, I also grabbed a necklace that had a pendant with a dragon on the front, and a bunch of triangles on the back, a reminder of my dating times, and put it on, dragon facing forward, and grabbed the nearby grey hoodie and put it on, zipping it up until the zipper almost touched the pendant on my chest, and then grabbed another jacket and put it on over the other one, zipping it up a little less the hoodie, hey it wasn't cold, I just needed it.
On my way out I grabbed a nearby Backpack with a diagonal strap instead of two, and put it on, it was light, I barely had anything in it except a few essentials. I opened the door and stepped out into the cool morning air, took a deep breath while closing the door and locking and double checking I had my own keys and started down the stairs and started running east, I had about a couple of hours, but I was going to be there before then.
I just hope my day is going to go better then my morning is right now.
