Description                                                                          Size does matter.

-Daleview high school, 11:01 AM cafeteria-

Have you ever had a monster charge at you? If so, seek professional medical aid post haste, if not, let me tell you, it'll scare the living bejeezus outta you, considering I may be a above average human, it does jack when faced with what this thing was, it outweighed me, had more strength, and was bigger, which would be no problem if I was fighting a person, see, the thing is that fighting depends on size, strength and weight, get outclassed by an opponent five pounds heavier, and you just entered the pain realm, if you foe easily outweighs you by a hundred or even a thousand pounds, then you left the realm of combat and enrolled in roadkill 101, or possibly a Tom & Jerry cartoon if you were feeling lucky.

Of course, having all the advantages is nice, but it doesn't help in some situations, considering my predicament right now, I'm lucky.

I dove out of the way before the thing collided with me and it tried to follow, but momentum won this one, as it slid into the glass with a thud and roared as it tried to recover from crashing into the wall, I quickly picked up a nearby table and threw it at the beast, but it just ran right through it, and I doubt it did much damage to it, I narrowly dodged getting a claw to my face as it roared past me and I had to quickly think, I couldn't just get close to it, it'll tear me apart before I could land a blow on it, and I couldn't just toss stuff at it, then my thoughts turned to the pillars…

The pillars were just naturally brick, but to prevent students with certain destructive ambitions to destroy the school, it had a metal center, and a current ran through it, which was powerful enough to knock out some of the kids here after a couple of seconds, but a regular man would be killed the instant he touched it.In a flash I quickly ran to one and put my back against it, and yelled;

"Come on you hulking ape-dog! Let's see what you got!"

I wasn't sure if it was my name-calling, or me standing still, but it roared and charged again, I rolled, but it correctly anticipated my direction and managed to smack my foot with a hand, which sent me to the floor spinning, but my plan worked.

It ran headfirst, into the pillar and activated the electric field as it demolished it, electrocuting it, but I didn't have much time before the charge would fail, so I had to improvise, taking a quick glance, I saw what I needed and grinned, I just hope the cafeteria lady wasn't going to be mad at me.

I ran over and picked it up and looked at the beast again while thinking over my plan, gave it a miss, and tossed it at the monstrosity, but I didn't see it until it was part way in its flight, a propane tank, realizing what was going to happen, I threw myself backwards, twisting so I'd land on my stomach and covered my head with my hands as the room erupted in a big explosion, it wasn't the "KABOOM!" you'd expect, it was more like a dull thud with an annoying ringing sensation in your ears after, after I felt the wave of the heat pass over me, I stood up to survey the damage.

The cafeteria was in chaos, the sprinklers had just gone off and started soaking everything inside in an attempt to put out the fire, I glanced towards everyone that was on the other side of the glass and saw someone had engaged the blast shields, effectively sealing me in until someone opened it, great.

I was about to ask if I could come out when another roar shook the building and the thing, unbelievably, had survived and was charging at me again, with a little bit of a limp though, I jumped over it and proceeded with plan B, which was run like hell.

I grabbed a trash can, of all things and turned around in time to see the thing tackle me and pin me as my improvised weapon trash holder was rolling away, turning my attention back to the beast it reared and shot a claw towards my head and embedded itself near my head, an inch closer and it would've sliced my hood, another two inches closer and it would've killed me outright, cheery. Seeking an opportunity, it slammed its other clawed arm into the ground and pinned me as I struggled to get my feet under, it reared its head back, as if to take a bite out of my face, but I kicked and succeeded in making it lose its balance, and slid out before it got any ideas.

I backed up while thinking, I smashed it with a chair, threw a table at it, electrocuted it, blown it up and almost myself in the process, and it was still kicking, me? I only had a few scrapes and scratches, but I already healed that up, and the only reason I wasn't dead is because I was lucky, and I settled against the wall for a quick second while my head pounded.

Looking up, I noticed it had finally dislodged both of its claws and was ready to make my acquaintance with the wall as I settled my foot on the table in front of me, it dug it's claws into the ground and charged and I muttered;

"Shake this off."

After it started to charge, I kicked the table with all my might and sent it wheeling towards the thing and succeeded in smashing its hipbone and maybe its legs as it fell onto the ground, I was confident I  had won, but the damn thing would not stay down as it stood up, I saw its mouth was dripping blood, splattering the floor, now I don't know what came over me, but I ran up to the thing and I quickly grabbed it by the throat, maybe I wanted to strangle it, yes, but I didn't get a chance, I felt something come out of my back and saw two black tendril things connect with its back, I turned my head right and I pulled to try and bring it down to the ground, but instead I got another roar, this one high pitched as it finally gurgled and fell to the floor, I backed up and the tendrils went back into my back, so to speak, but before I can wonder what I just did, I fell to the ground on my knees holding my head, and memories swam through my head, faster than I could even imagine.

Memories swam over me like a tidal wave,

First, images of a lab, doctors peering at the thing inside the test tube like it held al the information in the world, in a way, it did.

Next, more  images of the lab swam, but this one was different, it showed a scientist talking with a plump, middle-aged man, they held a file, but the thing was too blurry to make out anything of value, let alone a title.

The last image showed a windmill, I only got to gaze it for a second before it abruptly cut off.

I stood up as the memories faded away, and I stood up to see if the creature lived, but it had been killed, well finally.
I turned as I heard a metal grinding sound, but saw that the blast doors have opened and some people charged in, but stopped the instant they saw the creature and me, I walked out and hoped they didn't see what I did, I found Jessie and she stared, as if she couldn't believe I did kill it. I held out my hand towards her and she stared, I sighed and said;

"Can I have my stuff please?"

Jessie got the meaning and gave my backpack and I put it on, I slung it on and went upstairs, I didn't want to explain what happened till later. The rest of the day went by uneventful, well, mostly.

-C Lunch, 12:25PM -

I was sitting alone, near the door leading outside in case that thing had gotten up again, I didn't need another close call that may involve me getting clawed. Everyone had been giving me looks, ranging from downright hatred or fear or even surprise, I didn't know what happened, but hopefully no one saw what I did to the creature, if it was possible, I just hope they didn't I was freaked as well.

My arms have been hurting since the whole ordeal earlier, it didn't hurt much before, but now I could barely move my arms without pain, and it felt like someone was pulling big needles out of my arms, like the ones they use to inject cows with.

It got unbearable, I needed to be outside to think on this, taking my backpack in case I needed it, and walked outside and walked past the rail, thankful I was a senior here, you couldn't go past otherwise. Settling my backpack near the ground, I walked part of the distance down until I reached the flat portion of the property and I looked around, the track and football field stood before me, an old decrepit one that got played on when the mood was good, and not much else really.

I was about to go back up when the pain spiked and I fell, my arms on fire I gritted my teeth and closed my eyes and found the pain, so to speak and got rid of it, I head a ripping sound, but it was nothing compared to the immediate relief I felt, I stood up and looked, the entire place put me at a sense of ease, so I'm a sympathetic bloke with a knack for good views, so sue me.

I was about to turn and walk back up when someone behind me screamed, turning around, I saw a girl, the same one from this morning I saved, staring and screaming while pointing at me. I didn't realize what was wrong, until I looked at my arms.

My arms were now black that ended in something that looked like claws more than hands, and the arms themselves were looked like they were made with veins, spikes also protruded from my arms, about four inches long and three inches thick and I had the impression I could just cut into my arm and expose the bone, the hands were whole but had a boney look about them, flexing my hand, I discovered that I still had control over my arm, and it was my arm.

In a panic, I just stared, and my thoughts raced, I couldn't think on what to do and I muttered;

"Oh no, no, no, no…" If more people saw me, they would think I was becoming the beast and may attack, I tried thinking of my regular arms and I felt something pass over them, like water flowing over a smooth rock, and when I looked, they were mine again, and my watch, unbelievably, was still in place on my wrist, as was the clothing on my arms.

I heard voices chatting excitedly behind me and I trudged up the hill and grabbed my backpack, which had tried to roll away, and I glanced and saw the girl and her boyfriend, possibly, standing there and staring like I was a monster, in a way, I was. I got past everyone and walked on my way to my next class, I didn't want to explain how I could have spiky arms now.

-1:25 PM-

Thankfully nothing more happened in my last class of the day, and when it was time for the last class of the day, it was time for me to go, what a relief, I needed a nap.

I walked outside and saw Larry; he gave me a slack jawed look for a second then cautiously walked to me and spoke;

"What's this I'm hearing about you killing a monster and becoming it?"

I sighed, shook my head and muttered;

"I don't know why, I just had to kill it, someone was in danger, after that, I pretty much discovered I have powers after all."

Larry gave me another look and started walking away and I followed, I'm pretty sure I didn't need to, but I needed to talk to someone who wasn't going to interested just because I killed a monster. Larry thought for a second and spoke, excitement rising in his voice;

"So… you can basically Morph now?"

I sighed and said;

"Looks like it, I don't know how else to put it."

He smiled his doggish grin, but we had to spilt, he had chores, and I, well, I needed a nap and maybe some martini's before I can even catch a wink. He turned and looked back and yelled;

"Hey! Meet me at the junkyard on Saturday!"

I looked back and raised a hand and nodded in agreement, and I started to run, hopefully the rest of my day would go better, I doubted it though.
