On the left is the original shot of an attractive young model proudly displaying her assets. The photo on the left is a good example of taking a picture that may have turned out too dark with bad lighting.

I wanted to see what I could do with ACDSee Pro 7 software to bring back the color.

(No, I am not affiliated with this software company in any way. I just like how it works and is simple to use, as well as quite a bit less expensive than PS).

For this photo correction on the right I use ACDSee Pro 7's Auto Levels tool. I thought this was impressive color restoration from the original with 1 easy click of the mouse.

It is still amazing to me that I was able to get this much proper color and detail back from a photos like this without loosing clarity. Some times there in no amount of correction that can be done to get some decent color restoration. In those cases all you can do is to Sepia Tone it in order to make it look decent. That's turning it black and white with a antique browning. Personally I think black and white photos do not look good any way you slice it. I think it is a cheap cop-out for fixing a badly exposed photo and pawn it off as artistic.

Before the digital photography took over this profession the B&W film was just a lot cheaper to buy, and especially cheaper and easier to develop. Photography students would begin with just B&W photography for that reason. Photo correction was much more difficult with color film, so all they had to deal with was exposure. It would take a very skilled eye to look at a negative blown up onto the photo sensitive paper to see problems with the color balance when all the color of the image was reversed from what we see with our eyes, under the red glow of the darkroom adds to this difficulty.
