My Apprentice Chris Freedman is back again with another wild critter story, yet this has a much happier ending. We were fixing the eaves of an old 2 story house before we could install the new gutters. In doing so we found lots bird and other critter nests inside the eaves. So, in cleaning the eves out Chris ran across a squirrel nest with a pair of live squirrels in it, yet they were not intimidated by his intrusion. He put on these heavy leather gloves to reach in and relocate them outside the eves of this house before closing off the eaves and having them starve if left inside. He pulled one out and showed me how they did not seem to be afraid of him in the slightest. He went across the street to set it free. Then he came down with the second squirrel shown in these photos, which he decided to bring home with him instead. He put it in a cardboard box with some of the insulation they had been using as their nest, so he could get back to work. It quickly burrowed down out of sight. When he got home he introduced it to one of his 2 cats and this young squirrel dived in under the cats chest and this cat started lovingly licking that squirrel. Within a day in his apartment it had bonded with him. It crawls up his leg and falls asleep in his lap while he watches TV. He wakes up in bed with it curled up in the nape of his neck. He will probably be setting it free, but for now he named her Cherry.
