Description
Halcyon Xenomorph Alien 1×5 Scale Vinyl Kit.The 1979 edition creature, released by the Halcyon company in the early 90's.
Very easy to assemble, carefully trim away sprue, excess fills(in sockets) and seams then heat up the sockets with hairdryer and simply push the joints together. The most difficult part to assemble is the clear cowling for the head. (The second movie version didn't use this, so if preferred, just leave this off, if you want the other 86 version creature) I used Bostick plastic adhesive and super glue to secure cowling. Only the inner jaw required pinning inside the mouth.
Detailing on this kit is ok, however, There is some missing compared to the original creature suit in the reference photos.
I added this with two part epoxy resin. Details and texturing and blending joint seams was required.
As the figure would be displayed as a statue and screwed to the base, no articulation is required, so all the joint seams are filled and blended.
This kit is fairly soft, so it was necessary to stuff rigid plastic inside the torso to keep it's shape.
I altered some of the contours of the shoulder fins with a soldering iron to match the original. (Some of the detailing was not sculpted accurately in the mold, so I corrected these areas)
Pre assembly painting was done; ivory inside the mouth, the inner jaws and silver teeth/nails.
Details inside the head, under the cowling, before attaching and also silver misting inside the cowling.
Along with silver highlighting, there is a salmon pink colour, (i believe this is the original colour of the latex material the costume is made from), this is applied in patches to the raised tubing and ribbing detailing and also to form skin patterning.
Dark green is applied along with matt black for the recesses.
Once completed, the whole figure is coated with clear gloss acrylic for protection and the wet gloss finish.
I used Clear plastic sprue and clear brush bristles for the drool slime around the mouth.
Hand painted using enamels and clear acrylic.
