This should have been a redraw of this one:The picture is about a year old and I wanted to see, whether I got any better. Turns out, I'm still not good at drawing ponies doing something together. No wonder, I don't really draw that much, since two ponies interacting take way more time than a regular image ^^"
Twilight looks a bit strange, but honestly, I did not want change anything anymore. Took me too long anyways already.

Exactly. Never underestimate the power of will. Being optimistic and all won't bring major improvements just like that, but it still will get better in the end than staying there, thinking you won't get any better from now on.

Yeah, I guess the mindset can play an important role in that regard. But I'm a person of laws and rules, I somehow need a system. I need to understand, what's going on. Probably the reason, why all my pictures kinda look the same.

So, you'd probably not do very good trying something new, like drawing something else? I understand that, if that's what you mean. Maybe it's a matter of becoming familiar with the unfamiliar, like you've done with MLP.

Also drawing differently. If I just copy someone, it's easy. But actually trying the same style without a reference... Or just any other style I could think of... It's like telling a kid to program a kernel.
Maybe I just had a really bad education in art and I need to open my mind to it, like you said. My teachers always hated my art. (It was ugly as hell)

I usually stick to one style, but draw differing things in said style. Ponies, Spartans, tribalistic flames, addmittedly my horizons could be broader. The style is usually just cartoon-esque things with outlines/sometimes without.
Maybe, I can understand that. I just tried to open my mind to the fact that I can get better. Maybe thinking of it like this helps:
Having a reliable system to follow is great, but maybe the only way to improve and refine that system is to break the rules every now and then.

Yeah, you are right. That's not just true for art, but for other things as well. But especially for art and music. I only really rarely have that moment, where I can draw freely without feeling restricted by rules. The Pinkie picture actually was created that way and I automatically like it better, even though it may not be that much better than my other pictures. It's just the feeling of freedom that goes with it.
Maybe I should start meditating again. This helped for my studies.

It's very lovely and emotive, very impressive for a simple sketch.
Meditation is always something I would have loved to try. It interests me a lot, and I've given it a try once but my house is far too noisy.

Maybe mirroredsea would be a good example? Not that I would reach that level, but it fits more to the description of cute and cuddly. Though NCMares' art is quite fluffy
