I had a picture of Scotty but no background so I hunted around until I found a reasonable picture of Enterprises engine room (TOS of Course), cleaned, cropped, enlarged & enhanced. I then added Scotty & erased his background, balanced the grain then merged before some final tweaks & effects.To Download left click to get full size then right click & save the image.

The secret is to add just the right amount of grain (Noise) to each layer so they match this also helps blend in gradients etc. it also means once merged any further manipulation effects the whole image the same way & does not highlight any added components.
