At last SHADO, the Supreme Headquarters Alien Defense Organization, had captured an intact UFO on the moon. Plus the pilot was taken alive. Ed Straker, and Paul Foster, had just arrived on Moonbase when everything started going South. The alien prisoner had escaped and taken Joan Harrington hostage. While, at the same time, S.I.D reported a group of UFOs on approach to Moonbase.

It was obvious to everyone that they were coming to destroy the captured spacecraft. To prevent the Earth people from learning its secrets and using them against their creators. If successful then Moonbase itself would be the secondary target. No doubt to prevent their agent from betraying them. Either unwillingly or willingly.

Plus the obvious fact Moonbase has always been a major obstacle for the UFOs.

The interceptors are launched and the ground forces placed into position. Leaving Foster and Nina Barry in charge of the defense operations Straker and Gay Ellis search for the escapee and his hostage.
