Description
Upgrading the Project Condor attack aircraft was a somewhat less costly exercise than the Project Peregrine interceptors. The wing LERX and canards were not added, although the Thales SERVAL RWR, UHF radios, Sagem ULISS 52 INS and in-flight refuelling probe were incorporated, the latter able to receive updates from the legacy Maroni Doppler radar. The radar itself was replaced by a cheaper version of the Mirage 2000N's Antilope V. Known as Antilope 5E (for Exportation), the set was able to guide the aircraft through its terrain following, ground mapping, surface search and attack modes, but wasn't as capable as the original.Entering service from 1989 onwards, the maritime strike-tasked C-variants were armed with the "new" Barracuda anti-ship missile. This was essentially an AS.37 Martel airframe fitted with the seeker from the MM.38 Exocet and would be employed by both Romania and Yugoslavia in air-launched, ship-launched and coastal variants. Other new weapons included the second-generation JRN2 nuclear bomb and the Soviet-built KAB-500L and KAB-250L laser-guided bombs.
