Description
With the entry into service of the Sagittarius-class and the first border skirmishes with the Ch'lonas, EarthForce decided it needed something with as much oumph but less reliant on ammunition for its hard-hitting. The result was the Iowa-class dreadnought, a powerful (for its day) warship packing 24 plasma cannon and 12 particle guns. Mounted on a hull derived from the Oracle and Sagittarius-class ships, what she lacked in speed, agility and subtlety she more than made up for in firepower, being able to gut a Narn T'Loth-class assault cruiser from stem to stern with little problem. Although they were retired by the late 2220s the ships were dragged out of mothballs to defend interests at home when the much bigger Nova-class dreadnoughts were deployed to the Dilgar War.
