They called him Dagon.
A third-tier mage, he could reduce entire villages to ash with a snap of his fingers. Yet here he was, stumbling blindly down a muddy hill in the dark. His majik was useless here; he would have to take care of this demon the old-fashioned way.
Dagon could hear his quarry breathing heavily, somewhere up ahead. The succubus had cut a swath through his village, killing every young man she could get her claws into. Only Dagon was immune to her powers, but it took all his majik to hold off her demonic influence. Hence his stalking of the monster like a hunter pursuing a deer.
Slowly now, he crept up on her, the demon’s pungent aroma guiding him towards the target he had pursued through the night for what felt like miles. Silently, Dagon drew his enchanted dagger, feeling reassured by the knife’s weight and cold, solid feel.
Closer he crept, the beast’s stench filling his nostrils. It was an overpowering floral scent, intended to lure young men to their doom. It guided him as surely as the monster’s shrieks for aid from its kin.
There. Dagon plunged the dagger into the side of the monster’s neck, severing artery and windpipe in one blow. Its demonic powers negated by the blade’s enchantment, the succubus could only gurgle as it drowned in its own blood.
Dagon uttered a whispered prayer over the beast before leaving it where it lay. This would make six he had killed.

The next morning a police cordon sealed off the woods. Another young woman dead with her throat slit, yet still no suspect. This would make six he had killed...
