Description
Four Porpoise-class submarines were sold to Yopur in the late-70s, giving the nascent navy its first submersible capability. The subs spent their time prowling around the Bay of Bengal, shadowing Burmese military ships and listening in on transmissions from the mainland. Armament consisted of the British-provided Mark 8 unguided torpedo of 1930s vintage and the notoriously unreliable Mark 24 Tigerfish weapon. They would remain in service for around 20 years, before being replaced by the far more modern Gar-class SSK.
