It took a second for Dave's gears to turn again, but then he was trying to return John's (his John's, his very best friend's) hug, his arms finding purchase around the boy's middle. "Holy shit," he hissed, "You're alright we're alright I didn't think I would ever see you either Jesus I thought one of those things had gotten you holy fuck John you're real!" He babbled and clung and just leaned his head on John's, enjoying the feeling of his first real, sane human being.

John could feel the slightest burn in his eyes as he held on to Dave for dear life. This boy had saved his life from the instant he'd first replied to John's calls over the walkie until now; it just seemed so unlikely but so amazing that they were actually here, right now, together.
"I'm so so glad I helped when I saw you," John babbled with a breathless, choked laugh, "I had no idea who you were or how you were going to react, but I'm so so glad I did.. ah Dave it's just so great to actually have you here and be able to touch you and hug you! I've been alone for so long, I forgot what it was like.."

Yeah, this was definitely his John. His goofy, emotion prone John, his best fire d and life line. He was there, alive, human- the whole deal. Dave could even vaguely feel the pulse in his veins.
"Me too," he mumbled. "Forgot what it was like waking up without somebody about to kill you, too."
I'd forgotten how to function, and then you came along and fixed me..

John relaxed slightly, though made no move to withdraw from Dave. It had been far too long since he'd had contact with another living human being. "I won't," he replied softly, sweetly, "I promise I won't."

"John, I know I said don't leave," Dave started, a little coughing fit threatening him with an itch in his throat," But you're kind of making it hard to breathe." He patted John's back and held back the little fits, licking his lips and pulling the bottom one between his teeth. Okay, jesus, his head was making it's existance known really well righ now.

"Sorry-!" John squeaked, quickly releasing Dave and holding his arms close to himself. "Sorry, I guess I just.. kind of got caught up in the moment," he apologized more formally, rubbing the back of his neck with a sheepish simper.

Dave sucked in a breath and snickered, holding his sides. "No, it's alright, I totally get it. Just slow down, the world's still spinning a bit fast if you catch my drift." He stood awkwardly, unsure of what to do now. He didn't want to ask for food or water, but he couldn't get it himself so he figured waiting was alright. "If you didn't uh, do you have any aspirin? Painkillers or something?" Anything to make it stop.

John ran a hand through his messy black hair, thinking. "I'm almost positive I do," he replied. "C'mon back inside, I don't want to leave you out here alone, Dave." The boy paused after saying his name, an involuntary smile trying to fight across his lips just at the sound of it, at the fact he was saying the name to the boy's face. "I'll get you some water, too."

With a little nod and a hesitant upturn of his lips, Dave stepped around John and ducked through the door. "And uh in case I didn't say it," because he could barely remember the last twenty four hours, "thanks. For saving my ass, I mean."

John pulled the door shut after them, laughing softly. "Yeah, of course," he replied with a smile, shoving the table back into place in front of the door. He scampered up the stairs and disappeared around the turn at the top, rummaging through the medicine cabinet- ah, there the asprin was. He brought the bottle down, squinting at the directions through his dorky, thick-rimmed glasses.
"Here, I'll go get a water bottle," he said, setting the aspirn down on a small coffee table in the living room before again disappearing into a different section of the house.

Dave took that as his cue to sit the hell down. There was an old couch, a nice soft white one, and it seemed a good enough place. He stared at the aspirin and snickered at himself. When he was little, Dave had never ever liked taking pills. They'd made him gag and had just tasted awful. His brother had always threatened an early bed time if Dave didn't take whatever it was, (usually antibiotics for whatever terrible cold he'd gotten.) And that had usually gotten Dave to take it right quick. Looking back on it, he knew his brother had just been worried about him. Now Dave would give anything to have some of those medications.
He unscrewed the cap and dumped two pills out, thought better and just kept one. You never know when you'll need one extra.

John snatched an unopened water bottle and turned on his heel, making his reappearance in the living room. "Here ya go, dude," he said with only a slight smile on his lips as he held the water bottle out to Dave. "I hope the asprin is enough to help; you're pretty messed up, so.."

"A little knocn to the head isn't gonna fuck me up that bad," Dave handed John the bottle back, snickering. "I'm tougher than a pit bull,"

John's smile strengthened at that, nodding. "I believe you," he replied, nodding. "But that doesn't mean you should be on your feet, so sit down already, jeeze," John added almost immediately, pushing Dave back down onto the couch and putting his hands on his hips like a mother.

Dave was about to go you're a concerned hen, then, but he figured he'd save that for later. "Hell yes. Couches are prime napping spots, John. This is important information," Dave just dropped to then side, wiggling out of his shoes and pulling his legs up behind him. "Because you never know when you might get too lazy to go upstairs to bed."
