from my shoot 6/27 in my apartment at ty's going away party. this one is of a friend of mine i used to work with at blockbuster, brawn webb. GIVE IT UP for BRAWN! woo! maybe his first modeling experience ever...~daveainley
p.s.- alteration in this is pretty obvious. selective coloring on the reds... inspired in part by the fabulous frank miller's 'sin city'...

hmmm.. that would have been pretty cool. nice thinking.. i think subconsciously i was kinda going for the whole sin city-esque idea, and thats why it ended up this way.

SO COOL! I really like the selective color. Red, black and white. The texture on the wall and the random patchwork on the wall is awesome. You tie it all together with an awesome angle!

i looked at this and i was just like "oh!" i really like it, how you composed it like that. it looks almost like a cartoon. a very realistic cartoon.

thank you very much. it definitely has a comic book style about it... like sin city.. that's why i gave the shout out to frank miller (who did sin city). because i looked at it and realized that it was very similar stylistically. this is the piece that i'm probably most proud of right now.

that's your apartment! Looks like my kinda place...I'm jealous, I love old buildings. I wish I'd been more into taking artsy shots over 10 years ago when I had a similar type place...burned my ass on the furnace there once when I'd gotten out of the shower on a cold day...took years for the scar to go away.

nice use of selective grey-scaling... the overal composition is definitely not like your usual stuff... but it's as good.
the sinuous line of the chaise and the straight, severe angles of the corner are contrasted with one another beautifully... and that the chaise is in colour whereas everything else about the picture is in b&w.. it's odd, but it's almost as if the chaise is striving to be different.

hahaha... welllll.... okay, here's the scoop. this is the living room of my apartment. 12 foot ceilings REALLY come in handy here! i have like a 10 foot ladder in my room that i move out for these angles. i climb to the VERY top and shoot from the ceiling. its a little high up and slightly wobbly from that height. haha.. anyway, that's how its done.

i really love the comp and the perspective here.
i'm not a big fan of selective coloring mixed
with b/w. but you did a great job here.
i actually did go through a bit of a phase
like this and there's a piece in my gallery
called 'meditation' featuring an orange
pumpkin in b/w surroundings. i loved
it at the time. just seems kind of
'gimmicky' now.
but this is really really good. great feel too, ambience.
