Gorgeous reproduction of one seriously cool scene.
There was some awesome visual work in that film, to go with the script and acting.

No probs.
When I finally saw it I was completely bowled over by it, it totally surpassed any and all expectations I had for it.
Put simply I think it's the best ST film that's been made, although WoK gives it a bit of a run for it's money.

I was reported for using a screencap of this actual scene for a parody pic. You know one of those motovational poster types. It was actually a press release shot...Gave paramount credits and all...but took it down just to be safe...
The caption read "THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WE ARE NOT THE ONLY STARSHIP IN THE SECTOR."
Still a cool shot. Good work as usual.

The 11th just... wasn't STAR TREK.
A fine Sci-Fi, yeah, but unworthy to be called 'Star Trek'.
Engineering Room. PULSE Phasers on the A. Vulcan gets destroyed. SPOCK gives a damn about Logic.
NOT-GOOD. >_<°
And in addition to that, they changed the look too much, if you ask me. The whirl-like things on the Bussard Collectors, this Blue, huge, round things - I mean HEY! That's N-O-T the Enterprise A.
Even if I have to admit the bridge looked really cool, I have to say they won't bould one like this. And it just, again, WASN'T the A's Bridge.
To me, they changed too much in this Movie to call it 'Star Trek'.
They took the Characters, the Universe and Races, and they altered just EVERYTHING, a little or 'just too much'.
Just one more thing, to come bac to the Engineering again ^_^
WTF are all those TUBES supposed to be?! And this room looked like a big HALL, without any relation to the rest of the Ship.
Didn't it seem this way a bit...?
Hmm... maybe I'm just too picky about it, but that's my Opinion...
And to look for an excuse, they may have created another Timeline again. That's the only possibility to explain the unfitting Storylines of Star Trek and this weird Movie.
What do you think about it...?
And, if you are a real Trekkie just like me, what do YOU think about it all...? In Relation to the TRUE Star Trek, I mean.

I am not a Trekkie. I have written once that my love for Trek came with having a .3ds model of the Enterprise-E and opening it in Photoshop CS4 Extended.
Thus, I don't give a damn about canon and stuff till the show is entertaining. And XI was highly entertaining.

Yeah, but still - if you compare it to the original, it just doesn't make ANY Sense...
Even IF it is, if you get to ignore this fact, an entertaining Movie.
Nothing I would recommend to other (true) Trekkies, but the casual Movie Watcher will be satisfied.

I agree on that a more elevated story should have been written, but this was just a "pilot" for the new reality. All pilots are like that.

Ah well, if you'd like to look at it from THAT POV, yeah.
But doesn't make the Movie itself as 'Star Trek'-Continuation any better, for THAT Matter. ^_^°
I guess. If you ask me. At least. So... ah, yeah. *walks away*

I just saw the movie again.
Could a ship pass through the shields of another ship, as if on a collision course? If so, would it not be better to use non energy weapons, instead using plasma or solid ones?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
davemetlesits In reply to gopotter [2009-08-09 12:40:24 +0000 UTC]
The problem with pure energy weapons is that they are ineffective against shields. Remember, in TNG, Picard laughed in the stupid-alien-ot-the-week's fave when they tried to blast the E-D with lasers.

Oh. Of course...
No, sadly, I am too lazy to have seen every episode of star trek.
I've seen most of TOS< all of VOY, probably a little less than a season of ENT, and a Number (greater than a season) of TNG. As for DS9, While I haven't seen that many, I believe it's more than ENT, but I'm not sure. I like Crysilys from DS9, and... I forgot the who titles, but a klingon one... with the name brotherhood in it I think, and the tribble one (epic win)
In other news, I found out how hard it is to arrange/compose music on a computer. (Considering the lag)

I have seen almost all TOS and ENT, most of VOY, many of DS9 and something like that of TNG. And all movies.

1st one sucked, 2 and 4th were the best movies, 3rd was moderate, I get 5 and 6 mixed up so... ff was odd, uc was... interesting. gen was like anime filler, fc was fun, insurection escapes my mind, so not to good, nem was fun, and XI was, like, 3rd place

Now let's see:
1, TUC: epic Soviet/Yank... umm... Klingon/Fed political intrique story.
2, TWOK: The man. The name. The chest!
3, XI: One of the best space sci-fis of the decade.
4, TSFS: Curly-haired Saavik... Mmmm...
5, TMP: When the folks were still young and not the geriatric ward in space as from TWOK.
6, TVH: Whale-testic!
7, FC: One of the few exceptional moments when Picard pretended he is a man.
8, TFF: The quality sucks but the story is pure TOS at heart.
9, GEN: If they had kept it at the original concept, the movie would have been better.
10, INS: Picard is a man again and has a hot MILF date! Yeah, baby!
11, NEM: Too much Khan reissue, but the new ship designs were beautiful.

TVH is halarious.
We're looking for Nuclear Wessles.
As for XI, I want to say, personally, I think I liked Serenity better... damn that was a great show...
But it defenately wins the graphics award.

Must be in a wierd mood because when I saw this in thumbnail it reminded me of a wierd cartoon reindeer or something with he impulse engines as eyes, shuttlebay doors as a nose, saucer section as ears and the bottom of the ship as a mouth.
