very cool! maybe it opens its mouth and blows something like an explosive chewing gum bubble. I would add a sketch but looks like they disabled adding media from stash for non-core members (thanks Deviantart, merry christmas to you too ).Β

maybe next picture of this can be it using the explosions
my guess is either through the pinchies or those big flat things create something and the claws snap to trigger the explosion

It looks a bit like a form of mimicry to me... The intricate plates on it's front and back limbs resemble a New Zealand bird called a Pukeko when looking at it from one side and a Takahe when looking at it from the other. The orange plates appear to be large, orange flowers and the three standing hairs on either side of the orange plates seem to be the filaments of said flowers.

Hmm, I imagine those little pellets on the inside of this thing's crests/back fins are what earns it its name. Whenever it feels threatened, it shakes its back and sends the little pellets flying where they explode in the face of whatever predator tried to eat it a few seconds later. I imagine the little pellets are full of volatile chemicals that are normally safely separated when inside the little pellets, but mix and then explode once the crab releases them; of course, they would regrow after some time, maybe a couple weeks or something.

This is, of course, just my personal hypothesis. Feel free to use it if you like!

It's like somebody crossed a butterfly with a mantis shrimp.
