Description
Today (June 14) marks the official release day of The Herculoids: The Complete Original Animated Series from Warner Archive. So in commemoration of this event - a DVD I've been waiting for ever since the advent of DVDs themselves - I drew this piece of fan art.And although I've drawn Tara several times before, this marks the first time (excepting perhaps some sketches I might've done as a child, and a Herculoids fan) that I've drawn Zandor and Dorno. I would've included the others - Zok, Tundro et al - but I wanted to get this posted before the day is over. (Doesn't look like I'm gonna make it, though.)
BTW: the title is my rebuttal to the name of the bonus feature on the DVD: a short featurette entitled "The Herculoids: The First Family of Quasar." Here's why I not-so-cordially dislike the name "Quasar" for the Herculoids' home planet, and why it'll always be "Amzot" to me.

Excellent drawing! Loved the Herculoids as a child, though my fave creature was Tundro.

Hanna, Barbara, and Alex Toth himself would be proud of this portrait of the Herculoids. A fantastic job on the first family of Amzot (the true name of their home plane).

The very first thing that popped into my head was "BY THE POWER OF GREYSKULL!"
Got to admit, even though the image is not about the old He-Man cartoon, it has the He-Man style.

Good picture! Never got to see the Herculoids in the UK....Only saw some episodes in the West Indies.

I bet you wished you would've worked for Hanna-Barbera as an artist when you were a child. This reflects the simple cartoon design those two geniuses came up with.
An homage to William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, rest in peace, and keep smiling.

I certainly did want to work in cartoons, and these type of series (action/adventure with science-fantasy overtones) were the kind I wanted to make.

He'd certainly be great on national defense.
And Tara as First Lady

This reminds me of the old He-Man and She-Ra series.
They were some kind of of awesome.
Really nice style^^

When I was a little kid, I'd see reruns of Herculoids, and it wasn't until later I realized, despite the remarkable similarity, that Zandor was not, in fact, just He-Man with a dyejob.

He-Man has more in common with Young Samson and Goliath (American kid turns into a superstrong "barbarian"-bodied hero and then turns his pet into a superpowered lion with laser vision) and with Mighty Mightor (fantasy world cave-teen turns into a superstrong "barbarian"-bodied hero and then turns his pet saurian into a dragon with fire breath).

Just the other way around, actually; He-Man's the one with the dye-job
