Description
Introducing my 2nd Animation Portfolio Piece. Quite a leap from my first project, the well-known donut tutorial Blender - www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dd3eFk…Software used:
- Maya for modeling, UVs, rigging, skinning, controller creation, animation, dynamics, XGen for the carpet, and Arnold for the final render;
- Substance Painter for textures;
- After Effects for sound design and post-effects.
Due to the extensive nature of this project, I might share more in-depth insights into each specific area from a beginner's perspective in future posts.
I completed this project as part of Abraham Leal's tutorial, "Complete Guide to Maya 2023," which he described as his most ambitious course. Despite having prior experience with some 3D software, I found the course quite challenging and made many mistakes along the way. But that's the beauty of the learning process! If you're a complete beginner, I recommend starting with simpler courses to build a solid foundation.
Here are the main takeaways from this course, which took me approximately 100 hours of learning and practice:
1. Maya Modeling - Hand-modeling every element in the scene helped me understand why Maya is the industry standard for such tasks. I'm now better equipped to create the props I've envisioned.
2. Substance Painter - While I already had some experience with Substance Painter, refining my skills and learning new tricks in this course proved valuable.
3. Rigging, Skinning, Controllers & Animation - As the most time-consuming aspect of the course (accounting for 40-50% of the total time), I encountered many challenges. However, overcoming these hurdles made the final result all the more rewarding.
4. After Effects - The tutor provided all sound elements, so my role was to add visual effects and integrate the sounds. If you're familiar with Photoshop, this part is relatively straightforward.
As a closing thought, I want to encourage all 3D beginners and artists to embrace the challenges and learning experiences that come with mastering a new craft. Each project, no matter how difficult, is a stepping stone towards greater achievements. Remember, persistence and passion are key to unlocking your true potential in the world of 3D art and beyond. Keep pushing forward, and let your creativity soar!
Stay tuned for more insights into my 3D journey, peace✌️
