Description
In 3080, the owner of Hombres Stables, Gabriel Vicenti entered a business partnership with the Lyran Commonwealth's Defiance industries on a five year project to commemorate the on-hundredth birthday of Solaris Champion Gray Noton for the 3085 tournament season. Noton had roots in both the Commonwealth as well as the League, and both saw an opportunity to promote and exploit the event. Both Successor states and the Hombres stables cut clear responsibilities for the new mech; the latter promoting and stabling it.
At one hundred tons, the Gray Rifleman exceeds the mass of the Rifleman 3 by ten tons; though some of the original design is still present. Composite internal structure, a cramped cockpit for an assault mech, and of course its devastating gauss rifle array all carried over. In fact, like the Rifleman 3, only one Gray Rifleman was ever produced; adding to the mech's legend as well as its price tag. Most of the other flaws were dealt with however.
Like its predecessor, The Gray Rifleman is intended as a long range ambusher and sniper; cutting down opponents out past six hundred meters. With no minimum range armament to speak of, even its fifteen tons of armor won't protect it forever from a determined foe. As such, the Gray Rifleman is best used as the ranged partner of a team.
