Description We lay our heads down,
turn the lights out,
and hold each other
in the dark,
like we do every night.

And I feel nothing.
Nothing at all.
Dare I admit
I made a mistake?

We wake at dawn
and fix our morning coffee,
then shower, dress
and head out the door
to earn our money.

And I feel nothing.
Nothing at all.
Dare I admit
I made a mistake?

He calls me at noon
to ask how I'm doing,
and I say "I'm fine"
and "How are you" back.
We talk throughout lunch.

And I feel nothing.
Nothing at all.
Dare I admit
I made a mistake?

I think of what he's up to
two hours before quitting time.
And how we met,
and what we shared,
and why I married him.

And I feel nothing.
Nothing at all.
Dare I admit
I made a mistake?

He picks me up,
and we inch along the highway
on the half-hour commute home,
filling the air with voices –
either ours or the radio's.

And I feel nothing.
Nothing at all.
Dare I admit
I made a mistake?

We return to our home,
kick off our shoes,
throw ourselves on the couch
and talk about
each other's days.

And I feel nothing.
Nothing at all.
Dare I admit
I made a mistake?

I prepare his favorite –
and not mine –
for dinner.
We sit down face-to-face
and nourish ourselves.

And I feel nothing.
Nothing at all.
Dare I admit
I made a mistake?

I clean up after dinner.
He offers me a hand.
I tell him "I've got it,"
and he walks into his office
to get some work done.

And I feel nothing.
Nothing at all.
Dare I admit
I made a mistake?

I call him from the living room
to tell him his favorite show's on.
We sit beside each other
and watch the actors
pretend to live, like I wish I was.

And I feel nothing.
Nothing at all.
Dare I admit
I made a mistake?

We lay our heads down,
turn the lights out
and hold each other
as I wonder where our love went,
like I do every night.

And I feel nothing.
Nothing at all.
Dare I admit
I made a mistake?
