The more I look at the hat the more I think AJ looks like a pirate.
It's epicly awesome though!

Beautiful, simply beautiful picture.
And while I agree that, on average, Pinkie Pie would be more likely to grab someone like Dash and just dance, it doesn't really matter given the way you executed this drawing. The way that Apple Jack grabs Dash by the waist and her hand, her arms positioned a very firm and masculine way, and the wry wink she gives her sells me on this concept instantly. You very much capture the personality of the character in the body language and expression, so it's not hard at all to see her doing this. And while I'm big on the Apple-Dash pairing this picture can also easily be interpreted as Apple Jack doing it to annoy Dash. I like pictures that open themselves to multiple readings like that. I'm glad this is what came out rather than Rarity and Prince Blueblood. I don't think it would have been a fraction as entertaining.
I agree that the arched windows are bit ropey (though I understand since backgrounds are not a strong point for myself) though the characters turned out great. One touch that I really like is the way that you gave Apple Jack's arm some visible muscle which makes sense because she works on the farm. It's little anatomical touches like that I don't see a lot of in art that is more cartoony or influenced by comics, but it's something I appreciate when I do see it because it lets me know that the artist is really putting more thought into how to draw the characters.

AWWW YEAAHHH epic comment
Seriously, it's so amazing that someone can feel the love I have towards these characters trough my fanart! Because why else would I do this than to simply put it on a picture for other fans to see as well? I'm every time thinking carefully how to capture the feeling and presence of the characters I'm drawing and I especially like to draw the MLPFiM ponies on human form just because of that; it gives me nicely some freedom of designing and making interpretations of the ponies but make it look like they're really still the characters. I spend so much time on thinking about their body structure and height and weight and things like that so it's really amazing when someone notices it (and actually bothers to write a comment like this : D ).
I also kinda like it when in MLPFiM pictures the slash is kinda subtle since I'm still myself swinging on the edge of not making straight forward slash pictures (as I already made one ahemlol)or just leaving them clearly on friendship-level beacuse it kidna doesn't fit in the feel of the show. It's about friendship and fanart that swings inbetween just friendship and trying to take a new step to the complcated love field is the most appealing way to describe their relationships me. But yeah I must admit, shipping is fun. I just wouldn't do it too roughly of a show like this, not because it's for kids but because it just doesn't feel like that, it feels OOC.
Also umh yeah i was a bit lazy about the background but well the backgrounds kinda tend to be like this in the original show too so i just left them be. I didn't expect so many people to like this so I just kinda rushed it.
thanks for the awesome comment : D

"Seriously, it's so amazing that someone can feel the love I have towards these characters trough my fanart! Because why else would I do this than to simply put it on a picture for other fans to see as well? "
*Shrug* I'd say that the essence of art is simply trying to find means to express some feeling or idea as a creative act. Good art is usually successful in communicating that feeling to the audience, and I'd say you did a pretty good job of that in this case.
"I spend so much time on thinking about their body structure and height and weight and things like that so it's really amazing when someone notices it (and actually bothers to write a comment like this : D )."
While I haven't posted any art yet it's something I do myself, especially since I'm a comic geek who's in rebellion against the generic facial and body types of many characters found in mainstream American comics, particularly when it comes to women.
"I just wouldn't do it too roughly of a show like this, not because it's for kids but because it just doesn't feel like that, it feels OOC."
While I'm big on the AppleDash pairing I do agree. The whole point of the show is how the friendship between these six characters play out and the aspects of that. Introducing romance between them would disrupt that.
Not that I see that as a problem in the context of fan-art and fan-fiction, but I also see that as possibly providing a space for fans to speculate and fantasize. Though in any case it does come down to the individual artist's preference regarding these things. (Though I will say, that as someone who prefers ambiguity in the shipping context, you certainly did a good job of putting both feet into it with the Twilight and Dash kissing picture. )

I just love everything about this picture...
LetΒ΄s start with the faces, the way you drew the expressions is awesome. The little blush on Dashies face adds this lovely "i want this, but donΒ΄t want to admit it" feeling to the picture. While AJ winking just answers "oh I know".
The shading works out great, it really makes the picture come to life. You also caught the feeling of motion really nice, gives me the impression if IΒ΄ll stare at it long enoug it will eventually start moving.
IΒ΄d love to tell you something detailled about the dresses and hair too, but find my knowledge of english not quite sufficient to do so... LetΒ΄s just say the effort you put in this picture really paid off. I even like that "sparkly-stuff" you did and IΒ΄m normally not into sparkly.
For this all you really deserve a fav, watch, Llama and most important, a comment that took me way too long to write.

asdkjg thanks so much : D seriously
It's the best feeling in the world when I love a show so goddamn much I see it everywhere even when I'm working or SLEEPING and then people can tell I really made fanart of it with love and dedication (although this was kinda quick lol *cough*). I always strive to capture the feel of the characters and even when I'm more into humanized MLPFiM fanart myself because of just that very reason: it gives me a bit more freedom for own interpretations and designs but still gives challange to try to preserve the actual personalities of the original characters. It's very important to me that I'm able to add something of my own but still capture the feeling of the original show, just copying is boring (and I can't draw ponies OTL) I also always strive for the picture to tell a small story : )
Also you can't imagine what pain and trouble I went trough with the dresses. Seriously, how am I supposed to make those original designs look like something that a human could wear
thanks for the comment : D and good feedback andand the llama and watch!!

I wonder why I see this pic as a combo of "cute" and "hilarious" xD
Pretty nice humanization of hte dresses too. I imagine it's not terribly easy to make a human version of something made for ponies xD

hahah that's kinda spot on, then! That's kinda what I was trying to achieve with this.
AND you can't imagine what PAIN that was. Seriously it's almost impossible to make anything out of these two desings (the other dresses were way easier to put on a human form, i'm kinda working on those already but these two were still left)

DDhew In reply to Thanos-san [2011-08-07 20:07:09 +0000 UTC]
Well probably because they're not like traditional "princess dress" shape. I had to put an extra piece of fabric on RD's dress because it was just impossible to make it look good with so many rainbows but still include everything lauren faust had designed in their dresses in the original show. And I still had to match it with the whole feel of the dress so I simply put a piece of a greek tunic as the top (also I found the whole dress rather ridiculous when I saw it on the show lol). AJ's dress on the other hand didn't look or feel like an evening dress for a fancy ballroom dance party like the grand galloping gala and it certainly still doesn't even though I tried my best lol. I just really wanted to make the original design work on a human dress so I didn't end up mixing my own stuff there too much just for mere fashion reasons. *adjusts rarity dressmaking glasses* And the dress fits AJ's personality so meh, let the girl wear what she wants : P

Woah.
YOu have really put a LOT of thought behind this, eh? xD
Logically, I know that there is a lot to dressmaking etc., but it still surprises me every time I actually hear about it xD
And, if it matters; I actually noticed that toga-top in particular the first time I saw it. Thought it fit rather well
Say, do you do anything dress-related at work/school, or maybe as a hobby?
On a sidenote, I never thought I'd ask someone that and be genuinely interested in the answer. xD
Confound these ponies, they drive me to fashion! xD

Wow, I keep looking at this and I like it more each second. Even though it looks rough on some points (for example the arcs of the windows and the shading on the cloudy rim of RD's dress) I am falling in love with all the details, the wonderful pose and the great shading. Everything really seems to be exactly the way it should be. I especially adore their arms and hands and how dominant, almost manly, AJs face looks. I could just look at this for an hour and point out everything I like about it, wonderful work <3

lol UMMHHH shhh let's not talk about those *cough* I was a bit lazy with this one because idk it was just a random thing i drew really quickly and then I got frustrated when it took way more time to finish the lineart than it should've (seriously trying to make those dresses look like something that a human would wear is a pain >__> ). So I just wanted this finished asap.
But woah I'm so glad you like it so much : D Comments like this make me very happy : D
