Another iPad piece. Starting to get the hang of it a little more....big story chunk coming in a bit when I switch to my la-top. Boyfriend is snoring hella bad Andy I have some days off so I should be able to get caught up on commissions this weekend, yayOzzie woke up in pain, writhing his stomach and abdomen. “ugh.” He moaned trying to sit up as the searing pain spiked in his abdomen. He finally pulled himself out of bed and cringed. He made his way to Izzie and Lexie’s room in the dark. He snuck in and found his oldest daughter’s bed. He leaned one hand on the bed and placed his other on her arm.
“Izzie. Izzie.” He said quietly, shaking his daughter. She jumped then stretched. “Izzie, honey, I’m not feeling very good. I think we need to go to the hospital. Please get your sister and brother up and ready. I’m going to pack an overnight bag and get in the car.” he said hunching over and his brow furrowed in pain.
“crap, yeah, i'll wake them up.” She said sounding worried. Izzie woke her siblings up and returned to her father, helping him walk to the jeep. "Should I call 911? Or Grandma?" she asked looking up at him as he hobbled.
"I don't think I need an ambulance, I tried calling Grandma and she's too asleep to hear the phone. I hate dragging you guys out of bed like this but I don't know what else to do." he gasped as they made it to the door of the vehicle. He took a deep breath before pulling himself into the seat, using most of his upper arm strength to baby his stomach.
About five minutes later all of the foals were in the backseat buckling four year old Spencer into his seat. “Iz, please sit upfront with me.” Ozzie said breathing heavily. She switched seats and their father backed out, she watched him wince as he manuvered the car around. He tugged at his seatbelt, it dug into his stomach and pressed against the pain.
“Dad I’m scared.” Lexie said close to tears.
“It’s okay honey, I just don’t feel very good. I’m sure it’s fine.” He said driving and noticing Spencer nodding off again in his car seat. He kept glancing back in the rear view mirror. About twenty minutes after they walked into the emergency room. Ozzie was lead to a room briskly and was handed several forms to fill out as they started to take his blood pressure and several fast tests.
Later on a doctor diagnosed that his appendix had ruptured. They handed him a hospital gown and pulled his curtain around him from his foals to get dressed. He laid back down and opened the curtains again. His foals stood by his bed, ringing their fingers nervously in his hands.
“I’ll be okay. It will just be a quick little surgery.” He said holding their hands. They heard a knock at the door frame, Ozzie looked up to see a mare in a pair of scrubs and wearing a stethoscope. She had long curly blonde hair and gorgeous green eyes.
“Hi, Mr. Burton. We’re ready for you to come back for surgery, they wanted me to watch your three little angels for a little while until you’re done. My name is Dr. Radley Sanders, we’re gonna have a good time while your Dad’s having his surgery. Everything will be fine, we have our best doctors working tonight.” She said to the foals. Ozzie smiled up at her and kissed his kid’s foreheads and waved as Dr. Radley walked them out of the room.
She took them to the cafeteria and brought them some snacks they kept on hand. They sat down and Radley asked them about what they liked to do.
“We like art.” Lexie said in a grin
“All three of you? Wow.” She smiled.
“Dad’s an artist.” Lexie added.
“Oh how fun. He’ll be back to doing art in no time.” She smiled.
“I’m scared.” Spencer said looking troubled. Izzie pulled him closer, stroking her hands through his hair, which usually calmed him.
“It’s okay Honey, your daddy just needed to see a doctor to make him feel better. He’ll be back in an hour or two.” She said to reassure him. Poor things, you’re tired.” She smiled.
“I wont sleep until I know my dad’s okay.” Izzie said defensively, feeling overprotective being in charge for the moment.
“How about we go get some crayons and paper and make him some get well cards.” Radley came back with the art supply and colored with them until they finished their art. Spencer yawned. Radley looked at her watch. “your dad’s probably just about out of surgery. We can go wait in his room and meet him there.”
A little while later they brought Ozzie back into his room and hooked him up to his IV’s and machines. He was still unconscious and Spencer was starting to panic. Radley gently knelt down to his level and held his hands softly, looking at his tearing eyes.
“Hes very tired right now. He has medicine that makes him sleepy from surgery. Should wear off in a couple of minutes. He's okay." she said softly. He trembled a bit and started wimpering. She carefully picked him up and sat him near Ozzie's side on the bed. She took his hand and placed it on his father's chest. "He's breathing, see his chest go up and down?" she said softly. She tugged her stethescope from her neck and placed the ear pieces in Spencer's ears softly and held the other end to his father's chest, finding his heart beat. Spencer smiled wide and listened for a few minutes intently.
